Alternatives to olive oil and butter for cooking?

I mainly only use butter to fry some eggs but I use way too much olive oil for everything else like chicken, vegetables, etc.

Does any decent lower cal alternative exist?

There is low calorie/no calorie spray

Or, pour a small amount of oil in the pan and use a paper towel to just create a thin film instead of letting the oil pool

All oils and fats have roughly the same calorie content. If you want lower calories, the easiest option is to use less.

I’ve seen commercials for some that cook perfect eggs every time with no oil. Plus they don’t scratch even when you use an axe on them.

WD-40 in an aerosol spray. Although it's a non-polar molecule, it will still be biologically unavailable. Use it in light moderation. Personally I would stick with olive oil or butter before cooking with WD-40, but hey...you asked the question.

Agree with others--using less is really the best way to do it. Oil is the only thing that I measure out, whether I'm tracking or not. If you make sure to get the pan warm and spread the oil around, it's crazy how little you really need.

It’ll cost you some money up front and a little patience and practice.

Get yourself a quality stainless steel double bottom (or even better triple bottom) pan.

You’ll see why in a second a nice thick bottom pan works with this, a cheaper thin pan won’t cut it.

Heat up your clean pan, then take some water and proceed to do the “mercury ball” test with some water. Here’s where it gets interesting and you’ve likely noticed this before but never realized you can do this to cook with almost no oil or grease.

Your pan has to be able to retain heat, thicker bottom pans can do this once they’re up to temp they’ll maintain.

Once heated drop water in the pan, if the ball evaporates it’s not hot enough, if it turns into a bunch of small balls and bounces around it’s too hot. If the water ball glides it’s the right temp. Takes trial and error but once you get the hang of it it’s easy, there’s just a learning curve involved.

This is the best way to use the minimum amount of grease or oil.

Otherwise use an air fryer.

^ This. In the UK there is a pan called "Never Stick" made by Schoville. I cook all my eggs and meat in them with no oil, sometimes just a little water or lemon juice for lubrication. They're guaranteed for life but in reality I've found them to last a year or two before they start sticking, but what you save on oil and butter you can spend on a new pan.

Just last week I tried boiling pieces of chicken breast in water for the first time. I was surprised. Not bad at all. It's actually got more of a meat flavour when boiled. I don't mind it but I still prefer frying.
