Last week, they found an issue with the production of a batch of JnJ and then over the weekend announced that the JnJ supplies would be cut by 85% this week and now suddenly found a reason to halt the vaccine over a side effect with an occurrence rate of 0.00008%. Seems like they found a reason to buy some time to resupply after the lost batch from the production error, which is a much bigger problem than this clotting issue.

My guess is because it seems to be specific to women of a certain age group. I bet if the 6 people were all different ages, sexes, etc., they probably would have overlooked it. However, given that they see similarities in the 6 people they want to pause it to see if they can distinguish why it happened to this specific set of people.

It's not just a blood clot. it's a rare blood clot in the brain. And it's probably more alarming in that the AZ has already shown to potentially have issues with clots.

Normally this kind of thing gets hashed out in testing... Not after you give it to millions of people.

Fyi, the overall mortality rate IS actually 1.8%...

... it's just that the overwhelming majority of that comes from elderly people. For most of us here, our own mortality rates are likely 0.05% to 0.3% at the most (and even there, in theory posters here are less likely to be obese, have trash diets and other big contributors to covid mortality)
