I'm in my early 30s now and I've quickly noticed the drawbacks of alcohol after not really drinking that much for an Ameribrah in my teens/20s.
Although I've really enjoyed it as a social lubricant and as another vice to indulge in (dat craft beer hnnngh), I can't help but think it's drawbacks are too big to ignore any longer.
brb aging rapidly
brb losing gym gains
brb fat gains (night cap munchies too)
brb expensive AF
brb occasional hangovers
brb can get a DUI if one dumb night I drive with so much as a buzz
brb smashing ugly randos
brb brb
I think I'm going to give it up boyos.

If you have a difficult time with maintaining moderation, then yes, you should probably just give it up.
But one or two craft beers every couple of weeks (like going to a brewery to try some offerings with the bros) literally will do none of that. If you absolutely can't stop at one or two and get plastered even in that sort of scenario...then yeah...give it up entirely...MISC Haxball Crew

Yes I can relate to all the drawbacks you mentioned except that I don't drive at all.
I will never give up on alcohol, although I have reduced with time. As in I drink less frequent, but when I drink, I drink lots of it. Before I used to drink twice a week, now I drink once a month.
I always enjoy drinking, alone in a room, in a social setting like bar or a club, the memories of drinking are very dear to me, so I will never quit.

I pretty much drink zero alcohol unless I am hanging out with friends. I will never drink alcohol on a weekday (except Friday) and never with meals. I've never been much a drinker anyway.

The OP specified in his post that he enjoys craft beers - the point of quality craft beers is not to get drunk. They have alcohol in them, yes, and more than likely a higher ABV than the watery chit someone might get at a bar, but the point is the enjoyment of drinking them because they actually taste good compared to the watery chit from a bar.
It's like saying "why have just one or two slices of pizza, it's still bad for you with a ton of sodium and calories compared to chicken and veggies...so if you're not gonna just eat the whole thing then why even bother?" ...because you don't always have to go ham on literally everything and can enjoy tasty things in fun social settings without going overboard...MISC Haxball Crew

It just depends on where the enjoyment really comes from for you, bruh. If the alcohol content and intoxication is the actual motivator (and the craft brews tasting better is just the icing) then I can see your point. But if you really enjoy the experience of trying a short-production beer that you've never had before from one of your favorite breweries and are satisfied with just having that experience, then you should be good to go my man.
Whatever the case may be, if the alcohol consumption is causing negative side effects in your life as you described, then making positive changes should not perturb you.MISC Haxball Crew

Yeah, that will eventually be my "cruising altitude" as far as alcohol is concerned. I'm taking at least a year or two off while I chase some personal and career aspirations. It's been interesting to plan vacations and going to bachelor parties without alcohol being involved.
More than anything, I just want to prove to myself I can walk away from it with no issue.

Moderation is key, is the point I am making. I'll pull up the extensive research indicating the (at a minimum) neutral effect of small quantities of alcohol (especially things like wine and craft beers) on health, and at a maximum the health benefits of small quantities of alcohol if you'd like. I'll also show you that most of them have micronutrients that are beneficial as well (macros may help make a person look better, but micros are quite important for healthy metabolic and endocrine systems).
Replace 'pizza' with 'cake' at a birthday party. Or Soda. Or Bacon. Or a cheeseburger. Or pot brownies. Or testosterone destroying tofu since this is a T-level obsessed forum.
If you honestly believe that consuming literally any of the things I've discussed in this post in moderation on rare occasion will have a significant impact on long term health or wellness..then you should probably just avoid consuming anything for the purpose of pleasure and enjoyment and literally just look at what you put in your body as fuel and nothing more. It'll be way cheaper for you, and goodness knows it's a lot easier to just boil chicken and veggies day after day than consume anything else ever. And here's the kicker...there isn't actually anything wrong with that. It's all up to you.MISC Haxball Crew
