The top tube has visible damage in the paint area. The seller said it was just the paint on the bike and that it has never been an issue. I am wondering if the frame might be compromised. I tried the coin test and the sound of the frame is the same on the top tube. Is the frame damaged, or is the seller correct? If the frame is compromised RIP me because broken carbon frame = worthless

My wife bought a specialized in a craigslist thing and took it to the store for a professional inspection. They said all good, she bought it.
The next day brought it back to get the bars wrapped etc and they found a crack in the fork and told her it's worthless. We read the shop the riot act and they ended up paying for a new frame.
Hope yours can be fixed boyo... Maybe take it to a professional bike shop.Smooth Seas don't make Strong Sailors. Keep your head up.

If it passed the tap test and doesn't have any dead spots its probably just cracked clear coat. I personally wouldn't trust a frame with a ding that large without having it looked at by someone who really knows carbon road frames. You don't want that bitch folding on you when you're hauling balls down a hill.

That sucks bro, however 600 is cheap as ****.
I bet it has a bunch of rides left in it. I doubt it will spread with one bump. Not sure what kind of roads you have there though.I only read thread titles and my own posts.

Appreciate the feedback boyos. im going to take it back to the seller and dump it on him and ask for my money back. dont want to ride it as its risky, or use money on fixing this as here in Norway there are only a handful of people who fix broken carbon frames and its just not worth the money for this bike

Those are cracks. Superficial scratches on the clear coat don't look like that. That looks exactly like broken glass.
I don't own a carbon bike but fishing rods are made from the same material so I've seen scratches on clear coat and those aren't scratches, they're fractures and nasty ones at that.Last edited by JoeDelts; 04-07-2021 at 10:31 AM.

Next time take someone with that knows about bikes, like what to look for during an inspection.
Many, many people try to get over in a similar manner where they kind of "patch up" something into "working condition".
It's generally a temporary fix though and they're banking on the item hopefully breaking sometime after it's been sold.
I occasionally buy used electric guitars to resell and I see that stuff pretty often. The billionaire and the beggar both have 24 hours in a day.
That's why grandma's apple pie rocks and yours sucks.

lmao thanks for the feedback boyos. i could probably sell this to someone for a lot more, but i dumped the bike yesterday to the seller and told him to give me my money back. he said he KNOWS that the bike is not damaged and is perfectly fine. he did give me money back though. today the seller put an ad out for the bike again, some idiot will surely buy it and might end up dead.. not buying used carbon bikes again unless its in perfect condition

Pretty legit he gave you the money back. If you hound ******** marketplace you can find some good deals. I bought a 2012 Specialized Allez with 105 components and mavic wheels last year for $120. Wife selling her husbands “spare” bike. Put tires and tape on it, road 2k on it and then sold it for $400.
