For a personal laptop that still needs to run x86 software.
Do I grab a new M1 Pro or Max and utilize RDP (via LAN so experience wouldn't be too bad) or do I just grab a Windows laptop?

Windows laptop for maximum compatiblity. Only sloots and **** gots use macs.

yeah... if you're studying engineering, you better get used to working on a ThinkPad
Also, kinda lol'ing imagining an engineer at work unable to use the hotkeys in Excel because they use a Mac for their personal laptop and don't have the muscle memory to smash out every possible command in Excel without using a mouse (which is more important for productivity than any of the actual hardware in your laptop)

I decided on a ThinkPad P17 with a Xeon 6-core 10855 and RTX Quadro 5000 dGPU.
