    Digestive enzymes

I've read several articles about taking digestive enzymes with your post protein drink can make more if the protein available for absorbtion when it hits the small intestine. The articles also say that much of the protein in a liquid form (shake) passes threw your system to fast to be absorbed. What's you all's thoughts on this?

I’m a fan of digestive enzymes but for big meals. They’ll make very little difference to a protein drink. I’d always opt for food post workout as it’s not just the protein content which is of benefit.

As for passing through the digestive system without being absorbed, I’m not sure there’s much merit in this. Sounds questionable at best.

there isn't anything other than anecdotes and company funded studies that supplementing with digestive enzymes improves digestion more efficiently than a good diet in healthy people and the second part would be a result of pancreatic insufficiency

Should you take digestive enzymes with your protein shake? The answer isn't that simple. Digestive enzymes are usually taken to break down food in the stomach and small intestine, but there's no evidence they improve protein absorption if the shake is consumed after exercise. On the other hand, some people may experience bloating or gas from taking too much liquid protein and not enough water, so it makes sense for them to try adding digestive enzymes as well as more water.
