A new daily... What to get?

Dumping my impreza hatchback soon, nice car but too slow and just no... Cool factor... To it.

I really don't know what to get. Something in the 40k range.

So far I've though about an sti or a charger (v8 4 door hnnnngh)

But I really just don't know what to consider, I've spent most of my driving life in suvs.

Sti is top choice because I do like subaru ecosystem and I have a family friend at a subie dealer. Plenty of aftermarket stuff available and I just generally like the car. But I also like the charger and sound of v8. And 4 door with that is cool.

I've been in and out of cars the past couple years so, I want to find something that really calls to me.

Stick or auto doesn't matter too much to me
Yes... come and let us make an end of it. It matters not, even cornered, to my last breath... I remain who and what I am. I will not hide, nor tremble, nor beg. Let them come and reckon with fury that is DOOM defiant.

The best advice I ever received on this topic was this:

    Go drive everything you’re considering.
Tell the dealer you’re just testing the waters/seeing who has what
Hell I even test drove a genesis coupe before ending up with my mustang and I’d never buy a Hyundai.
    Sloots Gon Sloot.

I went from my Sti to a Audi S4 after a few years. Smooth ride and good performance then they got rid of the manual in Audi so moved on to BMW.

It's probably over the 40k budget

It depends on your personal tastes, what you want/need out of the car (space, mpg, sexy noises to peacock sloots, etc.) and your budget which you already stated.

Go test drive some stuff, do some homework on them and enjoy whatever you decide to get.

I love my M550i as a daily. A bit out of your range tho. Look at the 540i. Tremendous tech, rides beautifully, and it has plenty of power for a daily. The heated/cooled/massaging Nappa seats are ultra nice on my 30 minute interstate commute.

Get a CPO 335i/340i MSport. They’re not expensive, and with a tune you can get them >400 HP without causing any premature wear. I have a 335i and love it. The suspension upgrades from the MSport package are worth it alone.

I'm not sure how I feel about BMW, I've always wanted an m3, so I feel like I'd be disappointed with anything that is a BMW but isn't an m3 (or better)

Same how I feel disappointed I got a Subaru that wasn't an sti.

Im also considering a v8 pickup, I like the ram rebels, but then I won't have a fun car to drive, I already have a wrangler as a summer ride. It was supposed to be a winter ride but honestly my subaru pooped on the jeep in the snow this winter. My gf and I have the jeep for camping and offroading. I could add the ram to that and just let her drive the jeep and I drive the truck with all the cargo, so a truck would be super practical.

I just really want to find the car that will just satisfy me, I envy people who can keep their vehicles for 10 years, I just always want something else.

    Fukkkkk I'm so indecisive.

I plan on driving a few cars in the next month or two, I'm not in a huge rush. I've considered waiting for the new sti refresh also.

Go drive a new 5 series. They're beasts. M3 is cool but isn't nearly as comfortable for a daily as a 5.

Jeep SRT is the correct answer here.

I had my old 2014 for 7 years, and over 70k absolutely flawless miles. Perfect vehicle, kick myself for getting rid of it / not getting a new one.

I also have a Platinum Tundra, so when I got married I sold the Jeep SRT and got a 4Runner Pro for the wife. When in reality I should have got a Trackhawk and gave the truck to the wife.

    Jeep SRT is slow.

A regular V6 sedan can keep up with it.

i have a buddy like this. hey maybe i want a charger, maybe i want a jeep, maybe i want something european. he's blown a mountain of money buying and selling/trading in his cars as his tastes have changed every 18 months.

i do not recommend leasing cars on here often, if ever, but in your shoes maybe that's the move. don't commit to buying something you aren't absolutely crazy about. lease a car a couple years and see if your tastes change. not everybody can settle down in one car for years and years.

i see you mention charger and i do like those cars but i'm a dodge guy. i also don't mind something that is almost as long as a hearse. you might not like that after a year or two.

Agreed. Any Non M car will be a better daily than an M. My M3 even with the adaptive dampers set to Comfort will probably ride too harsh for some people.

Are you a driver or more of a lounger? If you don’t care if it’s a manual or auto, you should go for a used charger but they don’t retain their value like the STIs do. If you want a car to DRIVE, get a used STI. If you get bored with it after a few years, trade up and you won’t have lost that much $$ if you keep it in good shape.

Sounds sweet but not in the snow (if op is in a snow zone).

Also... Mazda’s have the tiniest little peddles ever. Brake and clutch at the same time.

I've driven nothing but RWD in New England for ages, all you need are dedicated tires not any of the all season nonsense.
    Summer: Michelin Pilot Sport 4S
Winter: Some version of Blizzacks or close alternative depending on how and what you drive

I think I’ve only driven RWD trucks and the olllddd Astro/Safari vans and they suck in snow. It’s doable (like you said, With the right tires) but not great. We have a 2WD F350 dually, and man, what a POS in the snow. I try not to drive it unless I’m towing something heavy.

I just bought a used STI. I plan to drive it into the ground though, like I do with all my cars.

Yeah see my problem is it's a bit of both. The sti would probably be more fun to drive in my case. Great handling around curves, peppy, awd for winter. But there's just something about the sound of an American V8 that I need in my life so bad. Right now one of my biggest debates is this exactly... A muscle car with the sound and power I crave or the sti with the drive ability I crave.

I mean the first thing I plan to do with either is make it louder. The sti I really feel like I'll fall down a a rabbit hole of mods where the charger I think I could just stick an exhaust on and be satisfied

I am in snow but it really doesn't matter, I have a jeep wrangler as my weekend car so I can take that in the snow. Though I would drive my sti in the snow for fun purposes probably.

Also I think if I do sti I want to wait for the 2022, it's going to be a big redesign. But I also have no patience..

Based on your latest post, what about a muscle car that can also handle?
    Corvette, Gt350, CTSV, Chevy SS?
