what do you think is the best combination of fighting styles?

I think wrestling + boxing is a godly combo, we haven't even seen someone that's an expert in both yet. Khabib has great wrestling but only decent striking

Against wrestlers your hesitant to throw kicks which means if you're also good at boxing you can **** your opponent up by closing the distance

If you are talking about world class fighters, I would say the best combination of Fighting Styles is: None. Focus on MMA-specific skillsets early regardless of where the techniques come from.

Disagree with you on that. The best fighters seem to have a strong background in a specific art

Best combination for MMA would be to know all 4 things as best as you can: punch/elbow, kick/knee, subs, wrestle. For self defense you would add a 5th: headbutts. Then self defense wise there are weapons etc.

As far as priorities go, modern approach seems to suggest that western boxing is paramount, but of course assuming you are aware of kicks and takedowns as well as submissions, knees and elbows, and can at least defend yourself from those.

    BJJ/wrestling + boxing

as long as you aren’t going against some elite MT/kickboxer...boxing is the GOAT and then mix that with grappling (would lean more towards wrestling). I love all striking arts but no other art teaches you how to throw a punch, footwork, head movement like boxing does.

wrestling and boxing, with more wrestling for cage fighting and more boxing if self defense oriented, if you're late, start with MMA.

I'd say submission wrestling, but that's BJJ + wrestling so probably doesn't count.

I'd say wrestling and Muay Thai

But in the misc, I'd say lifting and bulking because they think that if you can outlift someone you automatically beat them in a fight

No-gi BJJ and Muay Thai. The days of simply wrestling and boxing are over. The game has evolved.

No-gi / submission grappling will teach control, transitions, and escapes while grounded. Along with actually giving you tools to end the fight from either top or bottom position. Also teaches how to minimize damage while flat on your back. While not emphasizing takedowns as much as traditional wrestling, any good BJJ school will still put a lot of takedown / defense work in.

Muay Thai is the most comprehensive striking system. Simply have to know how to check / defend calf and leg kicks now, as well as deliver and answer with your own. Knees and elbows against the cage / in the clinch are also super important. Boxing does indeed have superior head movement / footwork, but Muay Thai still does a great job of incorporating it.

The days of wrestling and boxing haven't even begun. Many dominant fighters are coming up that rep this style.

Imagine if DC had great boxing instead of just decent inside strikes

Why is boxing better for street fights defence than kick boxing/ Muay Thai considering you can stay more out of range?

Both have the same base. The reason Islam went for the nut shot was his sambo base. Idc what Khabib or dc say the guy is not on khabibs level based on that Dober fight. He’s good enough to be a top 5 contender/champion even but nothing about him screams phenom like Khabib. Khabibs mental game was on point

Both have the same base. The reason Islam went for the nut shot was his sambo base. Idc what Khabib or dc say the guy is not on khabibs level based on that Dober fight. He’s good enough to be a top 5 contender/champion even but nothing about him screams phenom like Khabib. Khabibs mental game was on point
    not talking about the street

Because the threat of a takedown is way more imminent when boxing compared to kickboxing, OFC you need to know how to get in range vs kickboxers and check kicks not just sayin it from a pure perspective

Imagine if Mike Tyson had beast wrestling skills and also learned how to check kicks... He'd be a freak in mma

both are great for street defense but I will lean more towards boxing especially against a non trained person who is likely going to come out the gate throwing haymakers

no sport teaches you footwork, head movement, and proper punching than Boxing does. Boxing gets so much hate from people because it’s a “limited art”. who cares? I rather be a master at how to punch then jack of all trades between kicking, punching, elbows, knees.

Krav Maga/Kali for weapons and situation training, Judo/Sambo for grappling take down and Muay thai/Boxing would be for me.

The gap in the level of boxing between the best boxers in the UFC vs. pro level boxers is massive. We'll never see that level of boxing in mma just because it's so specialized and takes so much practice that you'd never get proficient enough in all the other skills you need for mma.

    This I agree with.

Most fights tend to be on the feet. So if you are a great boxer and can defend take downs you are in a very good position.
