It seems like someone is working on a translation patch for the Tales of Destiny remake on the PS2, for real this time:
This is kind of a long awaited thing for me. I've been wanting to play this in English since 2007 or so(though to be fair I could have learned Japanese in this time).
Any other fans of the JRPG with the fighting game battle system?

The only one I have played is Tales of Symphonia on gamecube. Loved that game so much. I have Vesperia downloaded on my Series X but haven't played it yet.
Definitely give the series a try!-Engineering Crew

Was thinking either Berseria/Vesperia/Xilia/Abyss
Zesteria seems to have mixed reviews and people don't seem to like Xilia 2positivity brah crew

Eyyy
I'm actually playing Symphonia for the first time right now, and it's really damn good. Feels a lot like Phantasia, but improved in every way. Lloyd is definitely at the top of all tales protagonists too, he's got a lot of character.
Playing the Steam version. A lot of people complain that it's not as good as the PS2 or Gamecube versions, but I'm just glad to be able to play it.
From the ones you've mentioned Abyss is the most liked, and Vesperia is pretty decent too. I don't have a clue about the others, since I don't really have that much interest in the newer games. Namco is out of touch and made some questionable decisions. The new oncoming game, Arise, is the worst. They're moving away from everything that made Tales unique, and trying to turn it into a Souls knockoff to appeal to western fans. Bleh.
Oh yeah if you plan on playing more than just one, go by release date. It's hard when you get spoiled by a game mechanic from a new game that's not available in older ones. I still haven't found a free run mechanic in Symphonia and I miss that from Abyss
I've played most of the older 2D ones that are available in English as a kid. Last year I've finished Abyss which was alright, and now currently I'm playing Symphonia which I really like. Got Vesperia on my backlog too, but marathoning JRPGs is a little difficult as an adult.
Anyway I'm excited for the Destiny remake patch, because it's absolutely the most over the top and polished out of the 2D games. An old combo compilation still looks impressive to this day

Yeah kind of figured that one. I know there's a patch that fixes stuff and turns the Steam version into best version according to some people. I'm just tired from tinkering with stuff. It's still pretty tolerable in 30fps.
Having the original hardware is pretty damn cool. Great way to replay the game I imagine

Think I may take a hard look at playing some of these now that I'm almost done marathoning most of the FF games lol.
I may actually pick some up since they are super cheap right now
You can pick up Vesperia/Zestiria/Symphonia/Berseria for less than $30 together but it lasts till April 30th on steamLast edited by sooby; 04-28-2021 at 05:46 AM.

For ToD. It should be in the description of the first video I've posted. They've got a github and a discord. You can already patch your game and play it if you want. It's like 91% completed even. It's not like previous projects, it's legit. Oh but you'd have to apply the patch to a ROM yourself.
I think they wanted to have fandubs too. Pretty dedicated.
For ToD2:
With the details in the description. You can even help with the patch if you know some coding or feel like google translating and manually replacing values in a hex editor. It's about 14% complete.
Oh and rebirth would be so damn cool. Rebirth and the Phantasia version from a PS game that has full body characters(Tales of Phantasia X)
Oh yeah man. I was pretty shocked at the prices. 85% discounts! I might actually give Berseria and Zestiria a try.
I'm currently playing Symphonia for the first time and I really like it. It's a very classic Tales game, but the combat system is a bit frustrating. Lloyd has turned into my favorite MC in the series.Last edited by PermaNoob; 04-28-2021 at 11:37 AM.

yeah f me lol, tryna take advantage of discounts of games that I probably would want to play later before they go up in price.
i mean it isn't exactly bank breaking lol but I kind of die a little inside
inb4 I spend $500 on 50 steam games
I looked at Atelier Ryza 2, the games looks nice and all but it seems way too weeb for my tastes lol idk. that and I like really heavy story-driven gamespositivity brah crew

Good news buddyboyos, the ToD DC translation is 100% complete for the story and 97% complete for the menu. This means you can play it now if you want!
There may be some quirks, since it's still the first draft, so you should save often.
What you'll need:
-Copy of the game .ISO
-the patch file:
https://github.com/furiousg4m3r/Tale...ny-DC/releases
-xdelta GUI program for applying the patch to the ISO file:
https://www.romhacking.net/utilities/598/
This is how you patch the game:
You can play the patched game using the Playstation2 emulator PCSX2 on your computer(get version 1.6 at least for it to run perfectly.), and you can also play it on your PS3 system if you put the patched ISO and the .CONFIG file that's provided in the patch download(just rename the config file the same as your ISO) in the same folder in your hdd.
If you're using the emulator you will also need the BIOS files. I'm using the JP BIOS for this.
Here's a version of the game I patched myself. I also included the stuff you need to run the emulator and the config file for the ps3:
Spoiler!
This game is really worth the hype. The combat system is dynamic as fuk and the voice acting is excellent. Visuals are very nice and polished, especially if you like nostalgic 2D games.
I've been a bit of a hiatus on my Symphonia playthrough, and now I'm just going to postpone it until I finish this game. I've been waiting for so long to play this!

Gladly duder. The whole patching process seems intimidating, so I thought I'd upload a patched version. It's not the final TL so you might still have to patch a clean ISO yourself for the optimal experience.
Yeah you just put the two files in your ps2 game folder and it should run on PS3. I wish I had a Playstation controller. Playing it with xbox one controller is awkward
I'm pretty excited for Arise too. I wonder if my laptop could handle it or if I'd have to upgrade.

Thanks a bunch brah, actually been meaning to try out a Tales game but I think I'll put this one to the front. Was gonna start out with Symphonia but I think I'll go ahead with this. Seems to be working like a charm. reps on spread
