The culture rewards the meek and unexceptional. That's why there's an effort to reboot everything sh!ttier. Look at Hellenization in the Ancient World: Everybody in Anatolia was somehow Hellenized overnight and it couldn't had been migration from Greece either.
I've lived long term in many countries in the past years. People ask if I get culture shock. I tell them no. Supermarkets, Metros, etc, work the same over there as back home.. The only thing "different" is usually the cuisine but theoretically you can avoid it by just eating at McDonalds or cooking at home.
