Do not own one but am well trained in how to use one in case we need to use one. They are pretty simple to use.

Not usually bc of that. Lots of concealed carry permit holders carry them. A pistol wound is basically (almost) never fatal unless you bleed out.

I have a mechanical advantage tourniquet somewhere. If it doesnt have a windlass, it isnt a tourniquet

Pretty crazy to think that the standard first aid kits we have at the store are designed to help minor inconveniences in life. Not chit you can actually die from.

Have a buddy who got ridiculed by the instructor at his CCW class. They asked who had a med kit and he pulled his out. Was a drug store brand with gauze and a few bandaids. Lol

How familiar are you with human anatomy? There are several LARGE superficial veins and arteries in the leg. If you carry a first aid kit, then its also smart to carry a tourniquet, mylar thermal blanket, pancho, iodine tablets etc. Bottom line, you absolutely never know when you may need these things and its better to be over prepared and never need them than be under and require them

the only thing I remember from those courses is the actual cpr compressions etc

Okay that's not what I meant. Lol. I mean it's not a rifle round that's likely to cause massive hydrostatic shock and kill you that way, or from a massive temporary wound channel. If you got hit somewhere that can be Toruńaudited, you should be ok
