lol you're a fuking boomer
either steam, torrent, websites sell games as digital copies/downloads, ROM downloads, various playstores, etc
if you really wanted to you could install a dvd drive very easily if your computer has the room for it. Or buy an external dvd drive that plugs into your computer like a USB and just use CD's that waypositivity brah crew

What you want is Steam
https://store.steampowered.com/
GOG is also good but focuses more on older games
https://www.gog.com/
Xbox for Windows is also a good source for games
https://www.xbox.com/en-US/apps/xbox-app-for-windows-10
Those are the big 3 stores.
Nobody uses discs anymore, pretty much useless as far as modern gaming goes.

what others said and I recommend installing Epic Store too, it has many free games give aways almost almost every half a year you can score big games that are free. of course different stores, gog, epic, steam, ubisoft connect, have their different prices and sales/offers.
I joined some gamer groups in FB for the purpose of getting updated when there's a good offer or free good game in those platforms.
Also if you want to use your game dvds you dont need to go through opening your pc and installing a dvd drive.
There are now external dvd drives
also lulz

Go to your local radio shack and buy the discs
-Some people say good things come to those who wait, truth is, good things come to those who work..... who work later.....who work harder...... who are willing to go further than anyone else to get them. If you're waiting for good things to come to you, you'll be waiting for a pretty long time.

The free games I got from Epic lol
Honestly feel bad about Epic sometimes, they give away so many nice games but most people just claim them and log out back. Also, once you purchase a game from them you can just get the installer and play it even without logging in to Epic. It makes the number of users online on Epic less. Steam is very clever, they made it so you can't play the game you purchased from them without going through Steam client and they made it basically a social media platform so even if you're playing a game on your own, you still feel like you're playing with the people on your friends list, which is very fun.

isthereanydeal.com
Use this as a cross reference across stores to get the best price.
To put it simply, Steam is both a store to buy games as well as a platform with keys that Valve allows developers to generate and sell wherever they like. isthereanydeal will give you a comparison across not only all the stores that sell Steam (or other) keys, but it will give you the historically lowest price. You can make an account, set up a waitlist to notify you of discounts, and even set specific parameters like beyond a specific price point or discount for notifications.
The only difference with buying games off of a platform like Steam is that you activate the key (copy + paste) they give you:
Other platforms like Origin (EA) operate like this to a lesser extent, but Steam is the most prominent as a platform when it comes to keys.
Epic's sales have given out vouchers for $15 purchases, so it's worth waiting for that if you see a game you're interested there, and Steam sales are often not the best price if you compare on isthereanydeal.
Currently, you can get Control (basic bitch edition - no DLC) for $12 on Humble bundle plus a bunch of other faff, but who really gives a fukk... with their monthly subscription, but it's best to not actually stay subscribed and only pull the trigger if the headline game strikes your interest.I will stand firm, I refuse to kneel - The fury in me is divine

Microsoft Store. Blizzard's Battle.net app. Valve's Steam application. Origin. Ubisoft's U-Play.
There's even more too. Thing is, when games come on PC, there are multiple "DRM" apps that the game's company have to decide to release them on. Sometimes they get deals from the DRM like a better percentage of the purchase price given to them versus other DRMs. Sometimes they'll choose DRMs based on availability / volume of players... Steam is one of the most popular. Games that are made by Microsoft will usually be on the Microsoft Store.i7-14700k

I buy digital Steam keys for really cheap. Then I just activate them on my account so I own them.
For example, last week I bought 3 games for $3 total.
Also bought Mount and Blade Warband for $4 (its $20 on steam)
Couple weeks ago I got the entire Telltale Walking Dead series... Season 1, the 400 days DLC, Season 2, Season 3, Michonne, and the Final Season for $11 total. (each season is like $20 individually on steam) ... I played through the first season so far and its really damn good.
i have too many games, not enough time.
I highly recommend Mount and Blade though. I haven't played the sequel (Bannerlord) that came out last year yet though, but I am playing the first one Warband, and it's fun.
and if I had to recommend 1 telltale game, I would recommend THE WOLF AMONG US. It's really damn good, I enjoyed it more than Walking Dead. It's adult themed. I managed to buy it for $3
also highly recommend SHIELDWALL. If you like ancient rome and fighting battles in a neat fun simple game, its good.
just for proof, heres a screenshot of my steam library descending from letter 'S'
