Check engine light came on. Am I fuked?

Can’t find my code scanner. Will look over the weekend and plug it in.

Yesterday drove about 100 miles away from home in my 2015 sonata with 250k miles (had to change to a used engine at 185k long story).

Anyhow all I’ve done is oil change since I’ve owned the car (bought it new) and replaced engine at 185k and replaced the starter few months back.

On the way back I drove maybe 2 miles and check engine came on. Car drives fine just check engine came on.

    Am I fuked? :/

Don’t want to buy a new car just yet. Wanna wait till get to see how nice/ugly the cyber truck is (yes you can shame me all You want - I still wanna check it out)

Higher amounts of methanol/ethanol (or other additives) than the engine is equipped to handle may trigger the MIL (see E85). These burn differently from gasoline, and the EFI system may mistakenly interpret the oxygen sensor's readings as being incorrect. Oxygenated gasoline can cause this false triggering in early EFI systems.[citation neede

What a koinkydink. I’m in a Lyft right now, just left my auto place after dropping off my car.

Check engine light came on this morning. On my way to Enterprise right now.

I’d prefer not to fuk around and take any risks. I’m gonna have them change my oil too cuz that needs to be done.

Check Engine came on my truck the other day out of nowhere. Used the scanner code and it read something about an emission leak. Googled the code and most common reason was a loose gas cap. Went to check mine thinking no way, I always make sure it’s on tight. Sure enough it wasn’t on at all.

Lol at being scared of a light. The engine isnt toast. Ive driven work trucks where the engine is banging and the light is FLASHING. All is good after its repaired.

You probably got an O2 sensor or something throwing the code. You could probably drive until the engine naturally wears out with that engine light never being fixed. Ded srs

FYI to anyone that reads this, if the gas cap is tight, it might be leaky, yes thats a thing!

if you're lucky, it's a code like mine where it doesn't affect anything except emissions crap

if you're really lucky, it's the fuel cap

Thanks gentlemen. I am not an Uber or similar driver lol...I just drive a lot for work. For all you Hyundai haters, I get 33 miles to a gallon AND it’s actually very very comfortable (more than my 2012 civic that I sold at 108k miles when buying sonata) for $4500. I bought the civic brand new and was scared of the miles. I should’ve kept it. Anyhow ...

When I was buying the replacement for civic, choices were sonata brand new or a show room test-drive used Acura TL. Acura felt very civic type and a bit too rigid - like sporty. So I went for the cheaper ($10k cheaper) sonata.

Well I drove the car again 100 miles to and now omw back another 100 miles. I did check the gas cap and it looks good. Car is behaving 100% normal. I’ll check it out tomorrow or run to an Autozone if I can’t find my scanner.

I hope it’s the gas cap cuz it’s not even clicking when closing for a couple years. Maybe that’s all that it is.

    Will Update

Obviously you've never had a land rover. Every time you start it (if it starts), the dash lights up like a christmas tree.

Last time I parked my car Friday night I had the check engine on I believe - for sure when I started it before driving back and parking it was on.

So I found my innova and plugged it in. It shows P0036. HO2S heater control circuit (bank 1, sensor 2). I plugged in the device and put the ignition to on but did not crank.

I did not push any button on the device.

I crank the car. And check engine is gone. WTH? I ain’t Complaining but am I out of the woods?

It may come back which could be a short. My wife’s mazda had a random misfire code. Would run perfect then start up and miss and then run fine from then on. Three new plugs in it but no dice, then one day it Christmas tree’d and started missing horribly. I killed it then started back up and ran great with no lights lol.
I can fix a lot of things but fukk electric gremlins. Traded that bish in for about what we paid for it thanks to covid.

You seen the details in the OP? My car is like a young whore with chit loads of miles on it. It’s 5 yrs old with a second engine and 250k miles lol

It looks brand new after a car wash (so I like to cope haha). Waiting for cyber truck launch before I decide what I’m gonna trade it up to
