Source: https://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...pa/6905658002/Hillsborough County health officials have determined that official events held around Super Bowl 55 resulted in 57 total COVID-19 cases, despite the thousands of fans who traveled to Tampa to attends the game and surrounding events.
In a press conference that was streamed on WFLA, a local NBC affiliate, Hillsborough County chief epidemiologist Michael Wiese said there were 53 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the state of Florida linked to the Super Bowl, while four out-of-state cases were tracked to the event.
Wiese did say, however, that the county saw an increase in the positivity rate in the weeks following the game.
This information, along with the low numbers that were reported, really leads to the conclusion that transmission that was occurring after the Super Bowl was the family get-togethers, the house-hold parties, the bars and restaurants that had unofficial gatherings and events associated with the Super Bowl," Wiese said. "While we didn’t really have a lot that was associated directly with the Super Bowl, we do know that the community kind of celebrated and got together in response to the events, which did show some increase in the transmission during the weeks afterward."
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the Kansas City Chiefs, 31-9 in the game on February 7.
Rob Higgins, executive director of the Tampa Bay Sports Commission, said events that would have normally been scheduled to be held indoors were relocated to outdoor events, where masking and social distancing was enforced.
“The Super Bowl was not a super-spreader,” Higgins said.

Average daily deaths headed down with a quickness from here on out. For a dozen days straight Virginia was reporting a big backlog of deaths that happened months ago, which artificially pumped up recent figures. Looks like they're finally done. Average daily deaths are about to cut in half over the next 2 weeks, keep crashing afterward. Time for Dem governors to get over their sadness that it's ending, and get on with life.

Deaths are still going down even with the backlog. Hospitalizations haven’t had a single day increase in a long time. Cases flattened but that’s because of testing from the storm. Still going down and positivity % is .2% away from the lowest since the pandemic started. 2+ million vaccinations per day and that’s without J&J being reported yet.
It’s nearing the end. Even dem governors will have no choice within a couple of months.
