Can you still gain muscle in a calorie defecit with a high protein intake?

If you can sustain a lifting program and eat a caloric deficit, your body will be able to pull from its fat stores to both fuel itself and potentially build muscle mass.

    Is this true?

The general answer to the Q in the title of this thread is Yes. Keep in mind the answer could change depending on the amount of the deficit.

If you have a good amount of fat to lose, yes

All of these. It really has a lot more to do with your current body fat percentage (the higher the more likely you are to gain muscle) & how long you've been training than how much protein you eat provided you're consistently hitting at least 0.8-1g per lb or so.

Yes. A beginner with higher body fat can do it very well. The more advanced and leaner one becomes, the smaller the potential to do so.

As you may already know even lean people can do it. They won't be able to pull it off for very long though.

On this forum, I find "if you have to ask" to be a good mindset in shaping an answer.

I don't know, maybe he's just a beginner who first heard the old myth that you must bulk to gain muscle and now doesn't know what to believe anymore.
