Intercoolers on trucks typically work fantastic due to their massive flat front ends. There are no heat soak issues with normal use / towing. These are not civics / wrx’s / evo’s.
Also take a look at the torque curves of TTV6’s compared to NA V8’s. The TTV6’s literally make hundreds more foot pounds at thousands less RPM in an extremely broad and flat power band.
Using the Ford EcoBoost as an example, it makes 500 lb-ft at 3100 RPM, with 90% of peak torque starting at 1700 RPM. This is much superior to NAV8’s, which also have zero production half ton motors that come close to those numbers. This enables the TTV6’s to tow heavier loads at lower RPM, and in higher gears.
Speaking of air in your original post, this is doesn’t even factor in NA engines power loss at elevation at a rate of 3% per 1000’ above sea level, which forced induction motors are relatively unaffected by.

Co workers brand new F-150 has now been at the dealer for 2 months now. Took them 6 weeks to come to the conclusion we all came to a long time ago: it needs a new transmission.
16,000 miles and needs new transmission. (And has needed one since it had about 5,000 miles on it.) That Ford quality and reliability brah!!

Hard shifting and sometimes would flat out just not pull from stops. It was a dangerous vehicle to say the least. Every time it would get brought in the mechanics would claim they couldn't replicate the issue. After like 6 trips to the dealer with it, lawyers finally had to get involved before they would do something about it. They supposedly ordered a new transmission for it like 2 weeks ago now.

My new work truck is a 2020 Silverado LT with the 5.3 and GM variant 10 speed.
Have to say I am very impressed with the 10 speed. Shifts are very quick, smooth, doesn’t hunt for gears, and keeps the motor in the power band. Makes the motor feel much stronger than the 5.3 w/ 6 speed in my last work rig (2017 Tahoe).
Also is getting 20mpg combined, which I’m surprised by.
But am also surprised at how laughably bad the suspension is. It’s like riding on pogo sticks. Probably 2-3 extra compression / rebound cycles when going over speed bumps, bridge transitions, etc.
