03-03-2021, 12:03 PM #6Perhaps you've heard the claims: Were it not for the genius and energy of African-American inventors, we might find ourselves in a world without traffic lights, peanut butter, blood banks, light bulb filaments, and a vast number of other things we now take for granted but could hardly imagine life without.
Such beliefs usually originate in books or articles about black history. Since many of the authors have little interest in the history of technology outside of advertising black contributions to it, their stories tend to be fraught with misunderstandings, wishful thinking, or fanciful embellishments with no historical basis. The lack of historical perspective leads to extravagant overestimations of originality and importance: sometimes a slightly modified version of a pre-existing piece of technology is mistaken for the first invention of its type; sometimes a patent or innovation with little or no lasting value is portrayed as a major advance, even if there's no real evidence it was ever used.
Unfortunately, some of the errors and exaggerations have acquired an illusion of credibility by repetition in mainstream outlets, especially during Black History Month (see examples for the traffic light and ironing board). When myths go unchallenged for too long, they begin to eclipse the truth. Thus I decided to put some records straight. Although this page does not cover every dubious invention claim floating around out there, it should at least serve as a warning never to take any such claim for granted.
Each item below is listed with its supposed black originator beneath it along with the year it was supposedly invented, followed by something about the real origin of the invention or at least an earlier instance of it.

The Cold War, the threat of communism, and international pressure to live up to our egalitarian ideals played big parts in moving the civil rights agenda forward in the 50s and 60s.

I learned that the original peoples of the world were black and that white people were a race of "devils" created by a scientist named Yakub on the Greek island of Patmos.

I learned that blacks were once considered to be an inferior species and were slaves. And we need that reminder for 28 days straight every year because we just can't live peacefully.
Imagine some young kid born into this world, not giving a sh!t about your retarded ass stupid skin color, but getting brainwashed with this garbage on a daily basis. "Look kiddo that black guy over there had ancestors who were slaves, what you think bout dat???!!!"

On the black side: I learned the story of Ota Benga, and how big of a deal the "World Fair" used to be.
On white people: I learned about a history of white people killing or locking up white people for being different or disobedient. I think we need a white history month, to tell the story of the white people who were oppressed by white people.ALL I ASK IS ALL YOU GOT FOR AS LONG AS IT TAKES

Black History Month is akin to Rape History Month in my eyes.
Imagine someone reminded you about that time you were raped every single year.
You would never get over it, killing your growth. You would be mad all the time, killing your happiness. Any accusation of rape now becomes gospel in your mind, killing your objectivity.I: Self, Lord and Master.

Some, about 70-80% bodybuilders like to get fat off-season so they can powerlift. I'm a powerlifter off-season. In contest I get ready for a bodybuilding show. I'm a /Bodybuilder Powerlifter."

That "Black history is American history" but if they truly believed that, we wouldn't have black history month. We would just discuss the history of a person based on contributions to society, not on their race.

I learned that some dudes take it Waaaaaayyyyyy too seriously!
"Do you think SHE actually felt like that was a sexual thing he was doing? She's like 6. Only an actual p3do would think that she thought he was groping her, too."
"Not that it's impossible to touch a minor inappropriately, but it is true that a 6 year old girl will not recognize someone putting a hand on their chest as groping, whether it is inappropriate or not."
