Some issues (like pandemics) are population-wide issues, which require population-wide solutions. But from a personal perspective, I agree with you and don’t like the idea of my individual choices being taken away.
I’ve struggled while watching this whole thing play out. I would like to believe that with freedom comes responsibility, but that clearly isn’t the case. I wish more individuals would be aware of their impact on larger systems, and that they would voluntarily choose to do their part to help. Whatever that may be.
But... do I think the best solution is government mandates? No. In fact, I think it did way more harm than good for the government+media to politicize a heath crisis. In my opinion, the government and its politics completely screwed us over before the pandemic even happened, but that’s a story for another day.
I think the real solution was public education and neutral acceptance of responsibility. But we’re so far from having that kind of societal maturity that I honestly think we were doomed from the beginning... and no amount of government mandates was ever going to change that.

I've been wearing it in a nd out of businesses because that's the mask rules, but at our gym, we have to walk in with a mask and it can be removed while exercising - so we are all walking around with no mask upstairs in the weight/cardio area and wearing them in the common areas and locker room. I'm in Texas, and I suspect many businesses will still have "mask required" signs next week, and I am not gonna lose my mind if I go to these places I'll just put it on for that time.
I always rip it off at the door with a grand gesture like - I'm FREEEEEE

I agree it would be better had the issue not been politicized by incredible partisan government intervention. Biases now run deep.
It's pretty clear that many on the right will not accept mask requirements, even if private. The left might continue to wear masks indefinitely. There likely is no middle ground. As you go the way of life, you will see a great chasm. Jump. It is not as wide as you think.

The mask mandate didn’t happen until may, just about everyone was wearing masks in grocery stores in March, meanwhile all non essential stores closed. I’d walk into a store before mandates and I could count the people on one hand that didn’t wear a mask, the mandate was not needed.
It was obsured for gov Hogan to step on his soap box this fall and speak to everyone like bad children and say “wear the damn masks”, if you looked at the stats nothing changed via no mandate vs mandate.
The more they act like controlling azzholes the more people don’t want to hear it.

You aren’t very smart are you?
What makes you think people don’t live in thier place a business?
I’ve known plenty, that’s a place to go when the wife throws ya out too, what world you live in?
The homeless live in vacant buildings.
Every time they set fires to a building, IMO that should be attempted murder.

They never stopped anyone setting fires over the summer, where have you been? Are just trying to be a dipsh!t ? Kyle Rittenhouse had to step up and put out a fire, look what to him, he had shoot some scum.
And I was in Baltimore during the Freddy Grey riots, the mayor told police to stand down and make room for destruction, this order came from a direct phone call from the mayor to Obama.
Baltimore was the beginning trend of what we saw all summer. The thugs burned down every business and liquor stores and the cops just stood there, all they were missing was marshmellows. They looked pathetic.
