I'm old so I have BTDT with politicians making promises to get elected and then folding like an old lawn chair once they are in office.
The big one for me was Obama on healthcare. While running for office he was all about a "public option" for health coverage that would be created by the government.
Re: Obama and healthcare
Spoiler!
Now we have Biden making zero real effort to support increasing the minimum wage to $15 over a five year period.
Maybe you think that is too big an increase, or that increasing the wage will just increase inflation, or don't believe in the minimum wage at all.
However the majority of Americans support the increase:
Biden will fight hard for a POS nominee that is essentially known to be corrupt, but on the Fight For $15 he folded right away.A Reuters/Ipsos poll released Thursday found 59 percent of Americans say they support the idea of raising the minimum wage to $15 per hour by 2025, with 34 percent of respondents saying they were opposed to the idea.
Bernie is right:
So Biden won't even fight for it being put up for a vote?
Who are these people working for again? Do we not even deserve a vote on the issue with the majority of the citizenry being in support of it?
From the CBO report on increasing the wage to $15:
And here is the real nitty gritty:- From 2021 to 2031, the cumulative pay of affected people would increase, on net, by $333 billion—an increased labor cost for firms considerably larger than the net effect on the budget deficit during that period.
- That net increase would result from higher pay ($509 billion) for people who were employed at higher hourly wages under the bill, offset by lower pay ($175 billion) because of reduced employment under the bill.
It would shift more money to labor away from capital. The bill would increase revenues, on net, from 2021 to 2031. That net effect would be the result of a number of factors that worked in opposite directions. Although total nominal income would be roughly unchanged in CBO’s estimate, labor income would increase while capital income would decrease. Labor income tends to be more heavily taxed. Income would also shift toward lower-income people and away from higher-income people under the bill. Revenues from payroll taxes for Social Security (which are categorized as off-budget) would increase. Other revenues would decline, on net, because lower-income people face lower tax rates, on average, than higher income people do.
https://www.cbo.gov/system/files/202...nimum-Wage.pdf
Can't even put it to a vote.
F*ck these people.

He has been in office for 40+ years. You could have easily reviewed his voting record, his kiddie touching, racism and his back office financial dealings to know exactly how your/their vote would turn out..
...But NOW you are upset that he lied? It’s as if you are mad the house that is being built is going according to the blueprint.

Thank God we have a parliamentarian preventing a huge sweeping change like a $15 minimum wage from being shoehorned into a COVID bill. Democrats should not be able to change the rules on a whim to cram bullchit down our throats. The bill should be debated on its own merit separate of COVID relief.
That goes for Republicans attempting similar things as well.Stern Crew

I did not vote for Biden. Did not vote for Hillary either (Clinton/Obama primary).
Heck I didn't even vote for Obama for his second term in office.
I'm saying that our system is broken and asking if there is anything to be done about it.

If you were dumb enough to vote for Biden, you should actually not be allowed to vote ever again.

I understand your POV about how our Congress has been operating. My understanding is that the way the Senate has been operating re:blocking votes almost nothing gets done without majority Senate support. As in they don't even vote on it.
Unanimous consent. All 100 senators must agree that the business of the Senate will go forward. One senator can stop bills, nominations, appointments, even ordinary actions like naming a post office.
Preventing discussion of a bill. There are four ways a single senator can hold up discussion of a bill.
On the motion to consider.
On the actual motion or issue.
On the nomination of a conference committee
On the House-Senate conference report which must be approved by the full Senate.
To make matters worse, when a single senator sets out to hold up business, he or she can insist that the Senate conduct no other business for 30 hours, until another vote to move forward is held.
Requiring a supermajority on nearly everything. A supermajority of all senators, or 60 votes, is needed just to allow discussion or a vote on a bill. In a democracy, a majority is the standard for elections and referenda, not a supermajority.
Committee delays. All 100 senators must consent to holding a committee meeting on any day after the Senate has been in session for two hours, or after 2:00 p.m. when the Senate is in session. This enables just one senator to stop important committee business from happening, forcing work to a grinding halt.
How does reconciliation work in the Senate?
Though the reconciliation process allows a bill to bypass the filibuster in the Senate, it does not affect other basic requirements for the passage of a bill, which are laid out in the Constitution's Presentment Clause. The House and Senate still must pass an identical bill and present that bill to the president.INTP Crew

Minimum wage in 1964 was 4 silver quarters and 1 dime. Approx 20$ in silver today.
If you want to fix the system, first you have to destroy the current one.
Fiat is a currency built on lies. I can’t explain it in a more simplistic way.
Consider trading your fiat for commodities. Fiat depends on commodities being low to function. They use ETFs in the stock exchange to influence commodity price discovery but at the end of the day; if there is no lumber or silver left they can’t just print more.
What’s most important for you to understand: Even if they increase the wage to 15$/hr it is only a temporary solution. As long as fiat exists they will leverage the fractional lending and printing against you to depreciate your wealth and keep you and your children in poverty.

Aware. Very much so.
Rigged game, stealing us blind, etc.
You would think that if we actually had a free press and "unfettered conversation" that this would be a hot topic.
That the bought and paid for Senate will not even put this to a vote and go on the record for voting against it if they so choose.INTP Crew

It depends. The democrats right now are attempting to pass the COVID bill, including minimum wage, through a budget reconciliation process, which only requires 50 plus the VP and can bypass a filibuster (what you describe above).
The reconciliation process allows for the passing of budgets but not policy. All of the other stupid crap in the COVID bill, although stupid, is budgetary.
Republicans are threatening to filibuster indefinitely because of all the above mentioned pork in this bill, including bridges, infrastructure projects, planned parenthood funding, foreign aid, etc...a bunch of BS that doesn't belong in there. (who can argue that?)
The problem is when you use the reconciliation process to skip filibuster, you can't willy nilly jam a bunch of crap through together, its got to meet a stricter standard. You can't put other "incidental" things into the bill, I think is the specific language. Its got to be budget, not policy.
Those are the rules and the parliamentarian is merely advising the Senate on those rules. This person was of course appointed by democrats and is just doing their job.
Berniebots are saying ignore the rules and do it anyway, which is a very dangerous precedent. Durbin and other "reasonable" (lol) democrats have already said they won't stand for that and the rules mean something, and lets debate the minimum wage bill in its own forum and not a COVID forum. And again who can argue that?
They are over the barrel because they can't delay the COVID relief bill because they are trying to jam their own crap into it. People eventually will turn on them because they are not getting COVID relief.
My personal veiwpoint from an independent who hates both parties.
or cliffs: you can't use a budget process to pass policy, only budget items.Last edited by Retoaded; 03-02-2021 at 11:20 AM.

Just because the majority of folks support something, it doesn't mean we should implement said thing. The minimum wage argument has been debunked over and over again so I'm not gonna bother with the details.
You should have went out and voted for the candidate that you believed would have served your interests better. Also nobody with an IQ above 5 expected Biden to do anything. All he's done is reverse Trump's legacy and implement useless LGBTQ stuff as if we don't have laws already protecting them. Hopefully this experience motivates you to go out and vote next time even if you hate both candidates.

How long will a 15$ minimum wage “fix the problem”?
How much time will it buy us this time? 5 years? 10 years? We are asking to essentially double minimum wage. In 5 years we double it again?
It will get exponentially worse every year you agree to play along.
Seek long term solutions, not bandaids.
Stop being complicit.
This fiat run was a great experiment but it proved as always that fiat starts at 0 and inevitably ends at 0.
Allowing them to continue this charade any longer is willful negligence and complicity in the case of your suffering.

Yeah well 15$ minimum wage isn’t going to do a damn bit of difference and will actually inflate every day normal items more along with putting millions of jobs out of business/higher unemployment.
15$ an hour already got rejected and now you have gas 70% higher along with items already being increased due to inflation already occurring. It will only get worst thanks to democrats and this whole scandemic
Most importantly it’ll fuk over the middle class or anyone making 15+ an hour now. You’ll have fukn raspberries at 9$ a box instead of 4$
Remember joe Biden and Nancy pelosi saying last year in March how safe it is to travel when trump tried to pass travel ban n gas was at 1.80$ Near me? Good timesEating "clean" doesn't mean eating "healthy"

Why do you lie ?
for 1 job 100 applicants
The unemployment rate is 6.3%, which isn't too bad when you consider how Corona Don failed the country by letting the pandemic rage out of control.
and you got people running around in face shields all for a political ploy. The US is fukd right now and will only get worst once post inflation hits... be ready n count your blessings...
You repeat this lie everywhere. Strange.
Where is gas 70% higher ?

Such an oblivious bunch you are; truly sheep in the highest regards. I've literally laid out the truth for you and all you can do is bicker/in-fight about politics. They were successful in diverting your attention at least.
The system was never intended to work. It's designed with one goal in mind. Move the chips on that side of the table to this side of the table.
You don't get it? Fiat currency dates back to 7th century China. They know it doesn't work, everyone knows it doesn't work. Except you I guess?
Stop fighting about politics and focus on the actual problem: Fiat
The minimum wage issue will always exist as long as fiat exists due to the nature of fiat because fiat creates a moving goal-post.
It has nothing to do with Trump or Biden.

An outsider has to shake things up.. A businessman bringing a different way of thinking to the table could have done it, but nobody could get past his mean tweets and rampaging because he didn't condemn white supremacy nine times before lunch every day.
But that's over and done with now, and idiots have their establishment politician in office again.. He will smile on cue for the cameras, (try) to say all the right things on his teleprompter, after it's been filtered through 37 layers of PR people and focus groups. Talk about how he and he alone can fix shiit, and then... nothing. Just like he's done for the last 50 years."Do you think SHE actually felt like that was a sexual thing he was doing? She's like 6. Only an actual p3do would think that she thought he was groping her, too."
"Not that it's impossible to touch a minor inappropriately, but it is true that a 6 year old girl will not recognize someone putting a hand on their chest as groping, whether it is inappropriate or not."
