    Thoughts on mcdoubles for bulking

    Assuming I'm not going way over on calories is it okay to have a couple mcdoubles a few times a week while bulking?

    Each has

    390 cal, 20g fat, 32g carb, 22g protein

    I ate them pretty regularly on my first serious bulk and gained a ton of mass but still got fat. That said, I wasn't counting and was basically just inhaling food. Wouldn't recommend anyone mimic that and the McDoubles shouldn't be to blame.

    IIRC they do have trans fat though. Might want to keep that minimal.

    Each has 8 gram saturated fat.

    Ideally you keep your saturated fat under 10% of total calories. 5% may be even better.

    On 3000 kcal 10% would be ~33 gram saturated fat.

    Don’t dreamer bulk bruh. I made that mistake and having to cut an enormous amount of fat to get looking good again. Eat good food but more of it.

    There’s no difference in the ‘quality’ of weight gain... bodyfat is bodyfat and muscle is muscle. It’s not gunna be ‘McMuscle’ just because you bought the food from McDonalds.

    The main issue is that you’d be eating several servings of processed red meat several times a week... that is not ideal for heart or digestive health.

    Why not just buy your own leaner cuts of meat and make them at home?

    True it is 100% beef, but given McDonald’s reputation for poor sanitary conditions and general business practices, I would venture to guess they’re not using the freshest, highest quality ingredients.

    Also they probably cook them at very high temps causing a higher accumulation of PAHs

    doesn't matter what he eats, it's not a dreamer bulk if he's in a slight surplus - at least i'm assuming that's what he meant by "not going way over on calories"

    i've also experienced an eager bulk (not dreamer, just thought 500 surplus as a ~20% bf beginner was the thing) and cutting all that fat was horrible

    Look, you like McDoubles, I get it - it's not so much about the bulk alone. If you're honest about it to yourself and aware it's not "optimal" then it's fine - adjust intake or remove entirely based on results.

    You're prob healthier than most people who eat 2 mcdoubles a few times/week.

    Have you considered the Dog Food Diet. It's nutritionally complete and doesn't have any artificial ingredients. I gained about 6 pounds of lean body mass in 3 months with it, although I ended up in the ICU. What's the dog food diet? You just keep a baggie of dry dog food in your jacket pocket and eat the morsels throughout the day. It's protein and fat from beef, pork and chicken.     I don't really understand why SF is talked about in terms of % of total intake. Isn't less almost always "better" when it comes to blood lipids? Why is it ok for someone on 3k calories to eat more SF than someone on 2k when, regardless of total intake, more SF is worse for blood lipids. I mean I know that someone on higher cals can get more of the other "heart healthy" fats and Omega 3s, but doesn't raising SF raise LDL regardless of how many other healthy fats are in your diet?

    Ik there's at least one study I've read that backs you up on this, but I'm very skeptical of this idea. Why would the levels of SF, all other things being equal, result in more fat gain? Did they actually control for overall fat intake, protein, carbs, etc.?

    OP, the short of it is, if you truly keep to a ~500 cal surplus, yes, they will be fine. Is it healthy? Probably not but 500 cals is 500 cals.

    Actually, PB on burgers tastes pretty damn good.

    I tried is back when I still ate red meat, and it was awesome.

    tried it again on a veggie/plant-based burger, and it's still super tasty. That and a fried egg or avocado.
