Currently on 1800 calories but my Carb intake is only 50g, I was going to follow the keto diet to shed. I am 189ibs but I want to get down to 170.
I read you need 50g of carbs or under to lose weight, but I was wondering if there was any other way to cut with carbs?

That is nonsense...
CALORIES dictate fat loss, not carbs.
At your weight, Ideally you should aim for at least 135g of protein and at least 65g of fat or so... the rest can some from wherever you want.
For example, you COULD do:
150-160g protein
130-150g carbs
65-75g fat
Again, CARBS don’t dictate fat loss or gain, it's about total energy.
There's nothing WRONG with low carbs, but it's way more flexible then it seems you think it is.

Adam is spot on.
The reason a lot of people cut carbs is because, if you only have ~1800 cals to spend in a day, and you want to keep your protein high, something has to give. Protein is the most important macro (imo), so I, like most, drop carb cals and replace them with protein cals.
It's all a trade-off to keep you at your 1800, or whatever you need to be at to be losing weight every week.2017 OCB Men's Physique Open 4th place
