When my 5 year relationship ended, i personally felt awkward when i tried to go on some dates shortly after, and instead just didn't pursue women for a little bit until i got my mind right. Still haven't found a lot of girls worth dating long term, but now I'm at least comfortable being alone and don't feel awkward going out with the intent of just hooking up.

As a guy i think it was beneficial to actually spend a few months just getting used to being solo, and just focusing solely on improving yourself, and maybe hang out with friends/family more. My anecdotal experience was my ex and other females in my social circle when the relationships ended, were in a new relationship within a couple weeks. I won't deny i tried to instantly go out into the market right after too, but difference is, Guys dont care of a girl seems a little desperate.
