I'm using a separate headphone/mic set up at the moment and it sounds good etc but it's just a pain. and also it's not portable for when i wanna go play games at a friends game.
are there any headsets that are good for FPS games (have a decent soundstage etc)?
i've looked at modmic set up and adding a mic to my current headphones - but it's not that great apparently

gaming peripherals suck almost across the board, you need headphones that are good for music and a modmic/vmoda boompro or one of those sennheiser/beyerdynamic headsets, though i can't speak for their mic quality
i use philips shp9500s and a boompro but i have a big head and ears so big headphones are a necessity and i prefer open back headphones for the soundstage

hasn't been my experience with the boompro and i think the modmic is a unidirectional mic as opposed to my omni- so it's got that going for it too
i've never heard complaints from my friends on discord but i guess that sorta depends on your discord threshold settings, i don't tend to comm mid-fight either though
suppose you don't have to buy like, fully open-back headphones like the 9500s either, some of the beyerdynamics are partially-open and that would probably minimize the issue

I dont think any headsets are good enough. I use sony noise canselling xm3 and I can hear peoples footsteps crystal clear
-Some people say good things come to those who wait, truth is, good things come to those who work..... who work later.....who work harder...... who are willing to go further than anyone else to get them. If you're waiting for good things to come to you, you'll be waiting for a pretty long time.

Afaik, headsets that are good for music aren't good for FPS games (hearing footsteps, etc). Not sure how true is that but you may wanna take a look into that OP. Me I specifically chose my Hyper X Cloud II for FPS and not for music.

Spatial sound on Windows 10. Helps with detecting if the sound comes from above or under. Big help with FPS games. Windows 10 comes with a free spatial sound you can turn on in the audio settings, but if you're not satisfied with it, you can buy either Dolby or DTS, for me it was the DTS that did the job with FPS games. I play R6 mainly and detecting sound is very important and I'm happy with my current audio setup. Logitech gaming headsets were good with that too and with their software, you don't need the DTS or Dolby, but as I mentioned above, Logitech headsets have that fragile plastic support problem, it can break anytime specially if you have a big head.

Is this the case for only PC? I am looking at the Hyper X's and the one has a 7.1 Surround Sound, but they say that surround sound doesn't work through the controller jack on the controller (which is how you connect it to the Xbox Series X). Would the headset in normal stereo mode still be good?

yes when I plug my Hyper X headset into my PS4, I can't turn on the 7.1 on it's soundcard anymore. Sounds satisfactory to me though, definitely better than my TV's built-in speakers, but I'm sure there's a lot of 2.1 stereo headsets that would be better for PS4. But for FPS games in PC where 7.1 surround is important in detecting sounds, I'd say Hyper X Cloud II is one of the best, if not the best.

If you're playing FPS games on PC then it's definitely worth the upgrade to a Hyper X headset, I'd recommend the Cloud 2, because I understand they have other models that was designed for music. Cloud 2 was made for fps games in mind. Guaranteed you'll hear the things your friends do. When I got my Cloud 2, I started hearing things I didn't hear before that it confused the chit out of me at first because not only am I hearing the enemy's footsteps so well, I'm also hearing so many other things, took me a couple of days + the DTS to get used to it lol

second on this Artic 7 pro wireless and its the first headset i have actually zero complaints with. Comfy AF no head pain from wearing it for hours, has a nice chat/game mixer on the ear so you can filter the two inputs to a good ratio so that mouthbreather on your party chat/discord isn't washing out the game. decent battery life and range on the wireless. will buy from steelseries again/10.

i definitely think it depends on what you're playing on, PC or console, and whether you can utilize surround sound or not. as well as whether you can customize the EQ settings on the headset itself
**the below is only based on being used with PS4(no surround sound)
I bought Krakens, they were garbage
I bought the Hyper X cloud 2, they were garbage
I bought the Astro A50s, they were ok but definitely not worth the price tag
I had some logitechs that were older and like a $100 set, they were great..AFAIK most of the logitechs are really good for FPS gaming...it's been hard for me to find a pair that gave better footstep audio than my old logis
Now i have Steelseries Arctis 7 and they are really good(used with PS4 and are now the exclusive headset I use for my PS5)
a lot of the streamers who play competively use the Astro A40s though...i cant name them all but a lot of the warzone players i watch have Astro A40s. I would probably get those or some steelseries based on my experience, but you can pretty much always order off Amazon, try and return them if they dont meet your needs.Last edited by A1lthatrema1ns; 03-01-2021 at 11:08 PM.
