I know some people join the military for a job, or come from a military family and join out of tradition. However there hasn't been a legitimate war in over 100 years, however these vets just go off and fight endless wars for the bankers. The sheep worship of veterans "protecting our freedom" is absolutely ridiculous.

Guilt after Vietnam, where regular civilians like yourself absolutely chit on people returning from the war. It wasn't until later that they realized how abhorrent their own behavior was, because it wasn't the people on the ground they had issue with, but rather the politicians and military industrial complex.
You're apparently too young to remember the post 9/11 world, where we actually had a bit of patriotism. People probably went overboard with the praise of veterans, but it came out of understanding that they still went through a traumatic experience (war) and they went through a sacrifice 99% of people are much too cowardly for.
But sure, go ahead and dump on the military. I'm sure you feel great about yourself afterwards.

Trying to get your ideal outcome often leads to the passing up of practical alternatives that deny your adversaries theirs.

They risk their lives and go through hell to serve their country, every country respects its soilders but America takes it to another level.
It is, indisputably, the best military (in terms of capability) in the world. So that's a potential source of pride.
WW2 is still a very large memory . But unlike Europe, where it's a memory of horrible suffering, defeat, and/or shame, for the US it's "greatest generation", kicked the **** out of all the bad guys, came out of the Great Depression, emerged as the most powerful nation on earth, etc. memories.
Cold War indoctrination, maybe. Decades of pushing that the military was very important (which I'd argue, it actually was).
Lastly, and I bet Americans won't believe me - but the US has a very egalitarian culture, socially. So, unlike a lot of the world, there's no source of stigma about someone with no college and who is "just an enlisted solider", etc.

Military might is the number 1 key to a successful nation.
Nature does not care for ideal or motive; without strength you are nothing and can make no demands nor be guaranteed any mercy from those that are strong.
We appreciate our military because we know that without it we would become prey to vicious opponents.
Through history we learn that might is right.
So show your goddamn respect to the mighty.

To serve corrupt officials you mean.

Somebody has to kill our enemies. If that means society has to jerk them off a little so they sign on and do their jobs so be it. I'd rather NOT repeat what happened to Vietnam vets.

I mean signing a blank check to the government, where your life can end any moment even during training can be why.
We live in a country, where it's a 100% volunteer force, too literally be treated as an inmate. So many people probably feel guilty about not serving and are actually appreciative of their freedoms.TRUMP 2024

Who are our enemies? Amazing people actually believe a bunch of 80 point IQ Arab militants are going to invade America. The only enemies are the ones that are fabricated, the whole Drumpf campaign in 2016 was constant crying about how the vets are treated. That's right, they were used as pawns and discarded like nothing when they were no longer useful.

Do tell, and even if there are people that don't like America I wonder why? They have been policing the globe for decades. The "war on terror" is a total crock, but hey go give your life for the banking cartel.
Your government loves you off fighting so much they generously take in thousands upon thousands of refugees from countries in which they bomb and occupy, only for you to come home and live around the brethren of those you wiped out. Makes sense and totally legit.
Who would willingly fight for such a sick country?Last edited by SteveSanders; 02-27-2021 at 10:30 AM.

Respect for combat vets? Sure. Automatic respect for all military members? Hell no.
People act like everyone in the military are front lines soldiers. Truth is 99% of them never leave base or face an ounce of danger. Unless you are grunt, you arnt risking chit.
I know several friends who joined up after hs. The truck drivers and IT guys are are always the biggest insecure chest beaters crying about muh service, while the one who actually saw combat you wouldn't even know he was military unless you pry it out of him.

Many people would probably argue that they're not actually doing a service to their country and perhaps even a disservice. What purpose has every war during the last 50 years served? Just to get some of the elites even richer. If you sign up during the military in this day and age you know what you're signing up to, and it's not a good thing you're signing up to in the eyes of some people.
