Imagine how much better the world would be if everybody did research on why theyre wrong. Srs.
Liberal or conservative. Whether it’s climate change, minimum wage, guns, immigration, drugs, universal healthcare, student loan forgiveness, masks.
Go on google and type in why the opposite of what you believe is correct and do at least an hour of research on it.
Instead everybody goes on to www.imright.com and yells “see I was right”

Everybody should look up why they’re wrong about their political beliefs

I do that. I seek the opposite view. It helps me reinforce my own arguments and also highlights some limitations. It also helps me to see where the other side is coming from. For example, I empathize with the Trumpers who think the election was stolen from them and want to fight. I also think they are fuking idiots who have been conned by a domestic terrorist, and am all for them being penalized to the fullest extent of the law (which includes the death penalty for treason). But I do empathize.

the beginning of wisdom is being able simply to say "i don't know"
also, to hold two conflicting thoughts in your mind at the same time, respecting others while sticking firm to your own, listen twice as much as you speakElegant Japanese Girls Crew [Founder] [LTC] [大和撫子]

It's called looking for truth.
My writing teacher in college taught me something very important. It was for the argumentative essay. He basically asked for someone's opinion on a topic, then quickly said, "Okay now argue for the other side otherwise your opinion doesn't matter."
He made a great point. That is why in argumentative essays at some point lay out the opposing argument to your own, but then dismantle piece by piece and explain why your line of thinking is correct or more towards the truth.
Most people will never do this though. We all have our biases and experiences that conflict with that. But honestly I have done a decent job of that the past couple of years and am now not into politics at all. Once you realize that politics is an inversion of reality, it is meaningless. Conservatives conserve nothing, and liberals are not liberal. It's a false dichotomy. It is like asking someone "Are you pro transexual or pro paedo?" Uhh.....neither. Those aren't my only two options.
Also politics is a black hole no matter what direction you go in. If you go the libertarian/minarchist side of politics you realize eventually that the success of it is based on the morality of the people and hard work. That is a dead end right there. Politics at this point is just political theater. Just enjoy the show and stay out of it. Play the game correctly, or do what you can now to get out of it and be successful.
