Been reading and asking around and it seems the general consensus is that low bar squatting is easier for most people, and enables greater poundage due to more muscle recruitment. That said, while some experienced lifters have a natural advantage with high bar, for many taller people with long femurs or torsos, squatting low bar seems to be the only way to have normal leverages at respectable weight.
For me, squatting low bar feels far more natural, but I don't know if that has more to do with a good amount of deadlifting under my belt and comparatively little squatting (i.e. weak quads and power at the knee), or my natural frame (6'2" and fairly long legs). I'm still in the novice level with this lift and want to train it the way that will yield the best results. Outside of competitive powerlifting levels of weight, would those of you with intermediate/advanced squats consider it a "training wheels"
sort of approach, or fully respectable if it is indeed the best way to go about it for one's frame?

I don't think there's anything "less respectable" about low bar, it just tends to be for people with different goals. Like, you'll rarely see Oly lifters squatting low bar just cause there's no real reason for them to. On the flipside, most powerlifters do very little high bar.BP: 280

It doesn't matter man. Whatever fits your frame best. Dedication is more respectable than squat style.
I never thought about HB/LB until maybe 2 years lifting. First day I just set the bar on my back where it wouldn't fall off and squatted it. First time I said I squat HB was when someone asked in my form check vid.
Just put the bar where it's most stable and try. You can easily change squat styles later.Once upon a time (maxes 2020) ...
