Foremost we need to reject the personification of science. Science is a methodology for discovering causes, but it has no agency, no power - it's not a person who can "talk to us" nor an authority who can render judgement.

There should be fines in place for people who don't wear masks. These fines should scale progressively and marginally with income. E.g. Fined 1% of income if You make less than $30,000. Fined 10% of income if you make more than 250,000 etc.

As far as beliefs go, people are allowed to be wrong, that’s kind of the basis of freedom. As far as actions go, it depends in what “won’t listen to science” means but I’d suggest try to allow people to be wrong and stupid as much as possible until they’re actively hurting others.

Yea but they published reasoned critiques and collected evidence to support their claims. They didn't go to the media and use arguments that have been refuted repeatedly and doctored evidence or no evidence at all.

The climate change deniers, covid deniers, etc have no evidence to support what they say. They just bitch and then refuse to change their minds. Everything is a conspiracy to these people.

In my covid thread, Nature, NEJM, and MIT were attacked as propaganda. If the leading science journals and institutions are now deemed propaganda by Trumpers, what hope can there be of ever communicating science with them? There can be no reasoned discussion.

The conservative media is starting to very much resemble that of North Korea. All dissent against Trump is attacked. Any scientific evidence contrary to what Trump endorses is deemed part of a global conspiracy against him and America. Facts are spun and misrepresented, and the press is labeled fake news if it is critical of him. He recently attempted a coup. I'm amazed you people blather on about liberty while not seeing that this is obviously some new brand of American fascism emerging.

Donald Trump is not a king, and the US is not an isolationist country. We need international collaboration to even function. He has entrenched himself so deeply in the psyche of some Americans, particularly white American men, and has made his followers identify him as some sort of symbol of white American male power in the country.

Nevermind that there are far more competent and powerful white American men on the left, such as Gates and Bloomberg. Sonehow, Trump is taken seriously and has become the new messiah of these people.

I remember my first posts on R&P where I was critical of both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. I received a massive barrage of negs over my comments on Trump. I was shocked. I wasn't even being objectively partisan about him. I had simply criticized some of his shortcomings and irresponsible words.

I didn't realize then what I know now about him and his followers. Their loyalty to him goes far beyond that of an ordinary candidate. This IS a real cult, and in order to destroy the cult it must be decapitated.

I am absolutely certain that in the coming years, Trump will become a very serious threat to the nation (if he isn't already). His ideology must be destroyed, and his supporters must be cast out and shunned until they abandon his insanity.

I seek to erode his support here by showing people that he is not a brilliant man. Brilliant men don't, for example, insist 17 x 6 = 112. They don't behave so obnoxiously. And they certainly don't deny basic science or medical advice. Yet, whenever I present these issues to Trumpers, I am met with extreme resistance. They rationalize it and double down.

For example, Rhadam could not believe Amy Coney Barrett, a professsor of constitutional law, would forget what protections the first amendment granted. When I showed him the vid, he rationalized it and said it was a long day. Had this been a democrat nominee, he would have certainly criticized the stupidity.

The mental gymnastics present in this forum are shocking, but there is an objective reality. The reality is that Trump is wrong about many things. He has attacked science and truth and must be stopped.

Joe Biden is not a great man. He has appointed many of the same people from Hillary Clinton's inner circle, with the same neoliberal hawk foreign policies, for example. But he is not a threat to America the way Trump is. America cannot survive another Trump presidency.
