New Candito video touching on a lot of the things typically discussed here.

The video basically advocates staying far away from failure for the majority of one's lifting. The video is designed more for strength but the first thread in the comments also addresses hypertrophy considerations.

The DDS guys did a good, hour-long discussion with Mike T not long ago covering similar ideas.

Yup saw that video. I think many people deep into the strength training realm knew for a very long time that training to failure isn't the most conducive to strength gains. There's just more research now to back that up.

Really the same idea with vertical jump/any sort of power training.

Yeah would be nice to know the secret method, eh?

He was injured for a while (back snap) and wasn't pushing singles much. Volume training built a wider base? He's also pretty smart with programming and very meticulous in tracking and adjusting. So, it's possible he just knows exactly how to make his training work.

If you've ever run any of his programs you know that they really push you hard. Late novice / early intermed I could handle that in a big caloric surplus and grow. Lately, I think it's just too much, though I'm 15 years older than him with no athletic background prior to 2016. Take a good look at his deadlift program and see how tough it is. PR in 3 weeks? Not for me as a natural.

Yeah he's def an elite outlier but lately I'm not sure about him lol. I mean his bench was always around 320 then all of a sudden he's at 385+. It basically took me a year to go from a 315 bench to a 325 bench when I was in his weight class.

    inb4 dat dere

but I think he was just very injured before and is now realizing all the gains with the work he's put in. I think he's mentioned it before, if you're in it for the long haul and really want to get stronger, you kinda have to be okay with going through phases and periods where you aren't setting any PRs.

I think he's also changed his approach to doing singles all year round as well. I think he was benching around 335-345 about a year ago could be wrong. sometimes it be like that where you can make some pretty big jumps even though you're advanced, but who knows at the end of the day.
