Acute kidney injury and hepatitis associated with energy drink consumption

Interesting case report. You’d kinda figure 5-6 energy drinks a day would be a bad idea

“ Multiple cases of energy drink-induced acute kidney injury or acute hepatitis are reported in the literature but this case is the first to report them simultaneously. Ingredients and presumed doses to cause these events are outlined in this case report”

Only skimmed it, but looks like it's directed at typical energy drink ingredients combined - and that this wouldn't apply to ones that only have caffeine added, or just coffee itself. Correct? (not sure if you've read other related material)

its not the caffeine, it’s the other stuff. One energy drink can have over the daily recommended amounts of taurine and niacin. Also other studies say exceeding the daily vitamin b recommendations by a lot, like 5 times

“ Previous case reports revealed acute kidney injury (AKI) induced by excessive ED consumption thought to be due to taurine, [4, 5] while others reported acute hepatitis (AH) attributed to niacin [6,7,8]. The doses that caused the injuries varied and are probably due to interactions with other ingredients.”

Got it, they mentioned caffeine at the beginning as an ingredient then nothing else about it, so wanted to make sure it wasn't a factor at all.
