OK, so the Bench Press thread got me wondering....
Who here is over 50 years old and benching over 300 lbs still?
Vids or GTFO.

Mr. Flex, I have video proof of 360 at age 55 at weight of 205 but a couple years old.
So, all I can say is that I did it and I have a video. Also 300 going up 6 or 8 times, 350 2 times.

I have never hurt myself on flat bench. But I have hurt my shoulder twice on incline bench. I haven’t done incline bench in 15 years.

I am a young whipper-snapper at 48 so I have to wait two years to play.
Pretty sure I can take the full 2 years off and come back and bench 315

Yeah yeah, you are a beast! Although I do want to see some recent vids!
Good work - looking forward to the 300!
I posted my 315 from a week ago - will post my comp lift from this coming weekend - confident for 315 again, maybe more.
EDIT: Competing in the 50yo class since I turn 50 in a few months... but not quite there today! Why NOT?

I took 2-3 years off benching heavy. Trying to get the confidence back in my shoulders to actually allow my body to push the weight, but I am very hesitant to try to give that 100% force exercitation.
I started a could weeks back trying to push a little. I decided to put 315 on and see how I felt. You can see it in this vid. After rep 2 I felt OK with pushing harder back on the weight.
I got my shoulders feeling better by working a lot of reverse. For years I only did 135. Towards the end of this past year, I decided to add weight and see how it felt. Surprisingly I was able to add weight without any pain. After feeling comfortable with 275 I decided to go to 315 conventionally.

Fine, but just one question. How many keyboards you been through? I only ask cuz you seem like the kind of dude who's particularly hard on keyboards, and if so I recommend a good mechanical model that can withstand vigorous typing.
and I know what you're thinking, but rest assured the added upfront cost will pay off in the long run.

Technically not 50 yet, but just 2 years out.
Thanks for the props. Just fighting the same battle everyone else is. "Heavy" is all relative. The struggle is the same though.
I was going to work back up to a 405 bench. 315x10 is a comfortable (no spot) 405 bench for me. I did 315x7 with another in the tank last week, but my shoulder did not feel good the next day, or the day after that
So I am going to go back to working 225 or less reverse grip for a while. Maybe even drop to 135 for a month or so. Not worth walking around gimped up chasing something I have already done. "Been there done that" type thing.
In the end, I have given up chasing numbers because frankly I have never been satisfied and I wont imagine I ever will. Adopting a more balanced approach forward. I dont feel like I have anything to prove to anyone, and I have always known that I end up accomplishing things I set my mind to. Just smart enough to set better goals nowRAW lifts

1. Agreed. Heavy is pushing oneself to lift more!
2. I did 405 10+ years ago prior to fracturing my back... and then never lifted with any consistency until now. Part of the chronic nerve issues I have is lack of enervation to my right tri and outer pec.... as I train now I really have to monitor my shoulder. It gets much more demand put on it, so i have to be careful. I'm working on my form too which should help. I'm also hoping that I can retrain some of my long-dormant right side to reactivate (my physical therapist seems to think it might be possible).
3. I'm up for trying reverse grip in the rotation.
4. Since I've never truly chased numbers, I'm doing so now that I'm approaching 50. I imagine either injuries or a few years down the road I'll settle down to 'a more balanced approach' and be good with it.For now I have a few goals that I think are really good to keep pushing me forward!
Why NOT?
