    What's YOUR IRA in?

I had a large chunk of my money in cash savings and of course it wasn't doing anything for me - I finally opened up my IRA at Vanguard and I'm excited to put the money to work. Account value is $6,000 of course as that's the limit and I'm curious to see what other retarded miscers are investing in with their IRA. Couple options I'm looking at:

    1. All into SP500 - The most standard option, can't really go wrong with that

    2. All into VTSMX/VTI , includes small caps

    3. Splitting the total account value into Amazon, Microsoft, Apple, Google and Tesla

    4. All into QQQ

    5. Half and half QQQ an SPY

    5. Half into the SP500 and Splitting the other half into various sector ETF's like JETS, XLK, XLE, IYG, etc

That's one of the reasons I moved to an IRA; more control over what I'm investing in instead of just the tsp funds

What do you mean by this? Also aren't we talking about an IRA; how would tax losses even come into play?

I think a wash sale can still occur if you sell something in a brokerage account and buy the same thing in an IRA account (or vice versa). So yes it can matter even in an ira

I need to do the same thing. I stop putting in my Roth IRA last year and just let it sit because I was holding cash to buy a house. But buying a house right now is out of the question so I should just max it out right now for the year.

Pretty sure I was mainly in VTSAX because it was such a broad etf. I had some in VTI too I believe. The last time I checked though was last March and it wasn't too pretty.

Just checked now and looks like VTI is crushing. Almost doubled from the last time I looked thank goodness. Same with VTSAX.

Time to get to work again. Too much cash just sitting right now. Might as well make some more money with it while I wait.

Had my entire Roth IRA in VTSAX for years. I just sold it all last week and put it into QQQM instead. Not going to need the money for 25-30 years anyway so yolo.

My 401k is all in the fidelity VTSAX equivalent, so it balances out.

If you put it in a Roth IRA, you cna take out your contributions at any time, no questions asked, no taxes, no penalty; think of it as a potentially super high yield savings account (which of course has risk of sustaining losses). Fuk 401ks or the TSP unless you're getting matched contributions. BRB locking up my money for 40 years like a fuking cuck.

When its time to buy the house, just make a withdrawal.

Yup you nailed it. I contributed 8k already to my roth so I can still pull that, but I am going to put another 6k since I think that is what is allowed 2021?

Used to have my savings in my high yield savings account too but covid ruined that. Miss those 2.3% gains for money just sitting there instead of the nickel you get in a typical saving account.

I have a 401k but only put in what my company matches. Otherwise I wouldn't put another dime in. Seems like we agree on financial outlook.

Sorry but what does covid hve to do with you HYSA? Did the bans use it as an excuse to lower interest rates even more?

Lol yes. HYSA are based on lending rates. When they don't want people to save money, they drop lending rates which then drops savings rates. When covid hit they needed people to still spend money and get loans to prop the economy up from total meltdown. That's why mortgage rates dropped so low.

Mine went from 2.25%, to 2.15%, to 2%, then every week from there dropped like .2% until it wasn't even worth it.

I just checked. My old account is at .6% LMAO

    1. All into SP500 - The most standard option, can't really go wrong with that

    2. All into VTSMX/VTI , includes small caps

    3. Splitting the total account value into Amazon, Microsoft, Apple, Google and Tesla

    4. All into QQQ

    5. Half and half QQQ an SPY

    5. Half into the SP500 and Splitting the other half into various sector ETF's like JETS, XLK, XLE, IYG, etc

My wifes Roth is 100% in VTSAX

My Roth was `100% FXAIX, but last year I wanted to see if I can beat hers with my own stock choices. So I kept about 60% of mine in FXAIX, then bought AMZN, MSFT, AAPL, TSLA, and PLTR. Thus far, we're about even. I'm going to play around a little with it going forward a little. We'll see how that goes over the next few years. If we stay around even, i'm just gonna put it all back into FXAIX and leave it alone.
