I would say that the blame isn't entirely on the folks who took out those loans but rather their piss poor upbringings. I remember when I was young, I was always told that "we" are the future. I was told that we can change the future for the better and that there are no bad degrees. This message was passed on by teachers, the media, Hollywood, leaders in power, wealthy businessmen, and a host of other people in positions of authority. I was lucky because the propaganda didn't really affect my decisions as much but it has impacted a chit ton of people. Sadly those people who would have gladly voted for more conservative policies are stuck in a boat load of debt because they bought into the lies peddled by boomers. What's even sadder is the fact that these people get used by manipulative politicians who promise them debt forgiveness and never deliver because they don't want to confront the College-Industrial-Complex.

I was truly fortunate enough to have supportive parents and I didn't bother with University. I would have probably ended up in debt. The whole student loan debate is a bomb waiting to blow up.

But rather saying that many young folks were hardwired from birth that every degree is equal. Where in my post did you see me say that everyone is a "mentally handicapped person person who truly believed a degree in gender studies was going to be something that is contributive to society?"

If you tell people from birth that every degree is equal then don't be surprised that many folks end up taking gender studies as a degree. Humans are social creatures and are easily influenceable. Most people are idiots and will do what the higher ups tell them.

If you're smart, the govt is giving you the opportunity right now to pay off your Student loans (as much as you can at least) with 0% interest.

they're baiting you with the whole......."we're going to abolish 10k/50k whatever" so that you don't pay it off in the hopes that by September the govt will do it (but they're not going to) and these companies don't lose too much money when payments start coming due again and that 6.8% IR kicks you in the dik again.
