A calorie deficit, weight training, are the things that will help you lose weight while avoiding health problems. Don't look for the easy and quick ways. How are you doing with your workouts?

Oh okay, I was always under the illusion the weight training would make me heavier if already 17stone. so I haven't done any weights just cardio but I'm not having much luck...

You don't need to train with weights or do any exercise if you don't want to. You can lose weight/fat by eating less than you burn in a given day, a caloric deficit to your TDEE.

Just the act of lifting weights does not mean you're going to get larger in size. That requires eating with a caloric surplus to TDEE while weight training with progressive volume and getting rest.

Eat less calories than you burn in a given day and you'll lose weight. How you create that deficit is up to you.
