Question Corporate brahs, how to deal with stress? (Srs)

Started work at a big 4 accounting firm around 3 months ago and it’s been brutal working 12-14 hours everyday virtually at home with no human connection. Been falling behind deadlines too where the seniors/managers mention that “this should’ve already been done a few days ago”. The team is very lean, only 4 people, including the director.

It’s started to affect me a lot mentally, where I’ve had a breakdown with tears a few times this year. For reference, I’ve never experienced this before, and most people who know me would expect me to be the last person who cracks under pressure.

In college, i was always a top performer, good grades while working 30 hours a week to pay for rent/expenses and great extra cirriculars (involved in multiple student clubs etc), so this all feels very odd for me.

    Appreciate all you misc brahs

You just started? consider this phase of your job the probationary phase. It's going to suck for a year and then get better little by little.
All I can say is, keep your eyes on the prize.

Dude, most people in Big 4 who aren’t insane stick it out for 1-2 years and leave to a job with normal hours.

Just suck it up for the year and or look for another job while you’re employed.

3 months is nothing. If it’s a decently difficult job it’s going to take a while to learn, don’t be too hard on yourself, these growing pains are necessary. Just do your best and try to learn as much as possible and get as good as possible

Pretty much - just suck up.

You're in this one way or another, so do your best and don't get too stressed about the consequences of losing your job.

It's hard to go hungry and homeless if you're of sound mind, anyway - so who cares if you lose your job?

The only thing you have on the line is your perceived 'success' and once you stop caring you become unstoppable.

It sounds stupid, but the same has worked for me in 2020... not only because it's harder working at home, but because I went through a whole ego shattering spiritual transformation where I'd completely zone out not do anything except lay in bed for weeks at a time, unable to think about anything really, just totally zonked out... then I mysteriously just get back up and be productive as f*ark for 10 hours a day.

Felt like quitting so many times, but just kept sucking up, and it works.

Now I am happier than ever in my whole life, and would not mind working the '****ty retail job' I hated when I was a 19 year old dumbkunt - so I don't care about losing my job when I get zonked out.

Weirdly enough it keeps getting easier and better, so I'm hoping to become a total work horse in 6 months time, working 12 hours a day EASY.

OP the Big 4 firm is a golden ticket to the seat at the big boy table. Just grind it out and understand that once you go industry it won’t be nearly as bad as it is now and with higher pay. I know with low light and lack of social interaction it can be difficult to focus but hang in there there light at the end of the tunnel. Good luck

Don’t smoke, that’s terrible advice. You’re just gonna be high stressing out even more and having full blown panic attacks (ded fkn srs)

Get 7.5-9 hrs sleep everyday, eat clean, exercise, and get oriental massages.

If that doesn’t work, then talk to a shrink about what a lil bish you are

    Very important steps to take

-Invest in a stand up desk
-Try to move around a lot during those 12-14 hours
-Exercise while on the job during breaks, keep moving and stay energized and start feeling more 'alive' in this way, being active
    -Stress management tactics and strategies
-Having the right attitude at all times
-Adding onto having the correct attitude, treat people with professionalism and try to come to conclusions with the help of others if you can, do not treat anyone poorly even if they put stress on you or whatever, do your best and focus on putting forth your best efforts when on the job
-Having strong communication with others if that is a part of the job

Jobs will always be stressful the first year or two you have to learn as much as you can and then it becomes nothing to you later, like clockwork. Maybe try to take more pride in your steps to learning how to become more efficient. That has helped me in certain areas of my life and work as well

Just grind it out for 2-3 years, and then you can hop over to a better/more chill job and be set. Also ^^^ don't forget to take care of your health.

Get a nice chair. I got a herman miller aeron and it makes sitting down for 8+ hours while working manageable.

Suck it up and save up enough money to quit in not too long, then travel, enjoy life and have investments that produce enough income to live on. As an accountant you should be pretty knowledgeable about wealth creation methods you can do on your own. Then if you want to be in the work force do easy part time work for the extra income or as a fall back full time more menial stress free work, but obviously lower pay.

That has helped me in certain areas of my life and work as well
    Great advice

Big 4 is a white collar sweatshop. Some people slept under their desk for a couple of hours and then went back to work when I was there. I would try to get into government or industry ASAP. Working at the Big 4 will maybe give you a slight advantage in future opportunities. But, I see people who started in government get the same opportunities.

My whole goal was to find a career I could grind myself to a comfortable which doesn't force me into 40+ weeks. Corporate BS comes and goes, you gotta suck and old man's cask here and there, kiss some ass, etc, etc, but there are plenty of corporate american positions that provide a pretty comfy work life balance. And life is too short for anything else IMO.

Plus save and invest big, retire early.
