U mirin my backyard fruit orchard?

Always been into gardening but really started going crazy when I bought my house in south Florida three years ago. I definitely wanted a big backyard to grow exotic tropical fruit which I think I've taken full advantage of. Check it out:

    - Got three "namwa" banana bunches. I've tried namwas from other people which are absolutely delicious, they are small and dense and packed full of tropical flavor. They chit all over store bananas. Haven't got any fruit yet but the big one should be fruiting any day now.

    - Alphonso mango tree. Planted three years ago and just started flowering so I anticipate getting some fruit this spring/summer. The alphonso is generally agreed to be the best mango variety in the world.

    - Lychee tree. Planted three years ago with the mango, going to get fruit in the next year or so.

    - Papaya tree. I had a previous tree which I harvested about 100 papayas from and grew this tree from a seed from one of those papayas. This tree is 13 months from sprouting and is already loaded with papayas.

    - Mamey Sapote tree. Just planted a couple weeks ago, should be 3-5 years to fruit. Mamey Sapote supposedly taste like a cooked sweet potato/ pumpkin pie.

    - Jabuticaba tree. Planted a few months ago, it's a slow growing tree so could be 5 or more years till fruit. These are ping pong sized grape-like fruit that grow directly out of the trunk of the tree. It's pretty bizarre, you should Google it.

    - Choquette avocado tree. Just planted this about two months ago. Avocados are relatively fast growing, hoping to get fruit within 3 years.

    - Jackfruit tree. Just planted a couple months ago. Jackfruit is very fast growing, going to get fruit in 1-3 years.

    - Coconut palm. This was actually planted from a coconut that I picked up from the ground and sprouted.

Not shown are a mulberry tree and three fig trees in pots, a muscadine grape vine and a passionfruit vine on my pool fence, lots of pineapple plants in my front yard, and some pots of strawberries and herbs. I've harvested figs, grapes, passionfruits, and strawberries.

I figure in 5-10 years when all the trees are full size I'll be balling in tons of free tropical exotic fruits.

    Epstein didn't kill himself. #neverforget

That looks really cool. I'm surprised they start bearing fruit so soon--without having any experience gardening, I just assumed it would be 5+ years before they're fruitful.

You should plant a few Moringa Oleifera trees in all that empty space for some serious health maxxing

Almost all parts of the tree are edible. Check out this nutritional profile just for the leaves (mirin leaf protein)

Any tips on planting from seed? How do you go about prepping the seed? I recently tried sprouting an avocado pit in a glass with water and toothpicks but it didn't work.
Except for a select specific fruits, you should really never try growing trees from seed. First off, they will take much longer to bear fruit. Second, if they even do bear fruit, there's a very good chance they will be low quality fruit or at least not as good as the parent fruit. Papaya and jackfruits are exceptions. As noted, I grew the papaya from seed, although it's technically not a tree, it's a hollow-trunk herbaceous plant which grows crazy fast. I didn't grow the jackfruit from seed (since I didn't have any seeds), but from what I've seen on youtube people have grown them from seed to fruit in under three years. Under the right conditions you can grow papaya from seed to fruit in nine months.

Other than the papaya, all of my trees were purchased from nurseries which should all be cuttings/graftings. While trees from seed can take 5-10+ years to fruit, grafted trees will generally take 3-ish years depending on the tree. Jabuticaba is a slow growing tree so that may take up to 5 years, while I'm hoping to get mangos this spring in its 3rd year.

Thanks brahs, it's really turned into quite a passion. My plan was to surround perimeter of the yard with trees and not encroach into the middle of the yard so I'm basically out of space. The coldcels will never learn.

Thanks for taking the time to post that info above, much appreciated. I had never heard of jabuticaba before but I googled it and it sounds really good. How would you personally describe its taste? From the descriptions I read, it sounds like it would be a killer fruit wine.

Nice brah. I just don't get people who buy a house with ample land and not grow food. Especially large fruit trees where once you get them established, you literally don't have to do anything and you will get huge crops of free delicious food for years on end. And yeah I'm in Boca Raton, how could you tell?

I've never tried jabuticaba! I've never tried that, mamey sapote, or jackfruit, and still decided to buy the trees. There's no fruit I don't like and based on videos I've watched there is a 100% chance that I will greatly enjoy them. There's a tropical fruit park down in Homestead (about an hour and half drive) that I'm hoping to get to soon to try all these fruits: https://redlandfruitandspice.com/ I'll let you know how the jabuticaba and the mamey sapote are.

Also forgot I have a miracle fruit plant in a pot. I haven't gotten any fruit yet but I think this is the one I'm most excited for. The berry doesn't taste like much, but after you chew it up, everything sour tastes super sweet for 30-60 minutes. It's wild. Youtube it.

For all the interest, here are some more pics:

My last papaya tree, the mother of my current papaya tree. Harvested probably 100 papayas in about two years before it died:

One of my potted strawberry plants just last week (I keep it covered in netting so the animals don't eat them first):

    Mango tree this morning:

The flowering branches of the mango tree, should set fruit in a couple months:

    Passion flowers (last spring):

    Passion fruits (last summer):

    Slightly miring.

I have 20 fruit shrubs and 10 trees but I can't grow basically anything you are growing (unless I had a greenhouse or something).

    Nice.

To comment on the above - I also do the same thing: grow stuff I've never tried, so the first time I try it, it's something I grew. That's always a lot of fun. I do that with vegetables a lot.

I got into making Mexican food lately and I plan on growing a fuk-ton of pinto beans and cilantro on my land this summer. That and a fine array of various tomatoes. Gonna Mexico-maxx up in here.

This is what life is all about. Gardening is good for the soul.
