    Successful No-Carb Day?

I just started my carb-cycle day. The last 2 days have been low carb days and today was my no carb day. Tomorrow will be my high carb day. Anyways, this is what I have eaten thus far:

    1) 2 eggs + 3 eggwhites + 2 caps fish oil and Sesamin w/ some apple cider vinegar

    2) 6oz lean sirloin tips w/ 1 cup broccoli (decent amount of fat still because it was a sirloin cut and not a filet cut)

    3) 6oz turkey (deli meat as I was at work and there was no other lean sources of protein available) w/ 2 cups spinach

    4) 6oz Chicken breast w/ 1 cup mixed veggies + 2 caps fish oil + sesamin

    5) 45g whey shake

    6) 1 cup lowfat cottage cheese w/ 2 oz nuts + fish oil + sesamin w/ apple cider vinegar

Successful day? Was it pretty decent for my first no-carb day?

Looks good man. Congrats. I actually find my low carb days are easier than moderate days because I eat so much protein on low/zero carb days, and protein is so much more filling than carbs. High carb days are fun too. Its the damn moderate days that suck . Good luck on your cut.

Why would you ever do a no-carb day?

No carbs makes it almost impossible to be in an anabolic state. Your net nitrogen balance will be off...and you'll be losing muscle.

Thanks man I'm happy to hear positive feedback! Strangely enough, with a little caffeine the no carb day was a piece of cake.

You need a lot more fat than that... go get some olive oil, cheese, peanutbutter and almond.. your body won't utilize fat unless you supply it with good amount of healthy fat.. Our body can just turn protein into carbs...

where is your fat ? I see no significant fat intake at all. you need fat with every meal ,atleast 40% of your calories from fat . In order to utilize the fat burning your body needs to realize that fat now is the fuel and not carbs.

I read the FAQ on carb cycling.

IMO, it sounds absolutely retarded. Oh well, different strokes...

I dunno guys he has good fat sources. Eggs, sesamin, fish oil, steak, low fat cc (low not zero), nuts...looks fine to me. Plus 40% is a bit high, he's not going keto here he's just carb cycling. And on a zero carb day I see no problem with an 80/0/20 split. Assuming he gets that 20% or thereabouts, his fat sources are pretty damn good.

No, it cant. It can use protein for energy but it cant "turn protein into carbs".

No, it cant. It can use protein for energy "turn protein into carbs".
I disagree , On a no carb day 80% of your calorie intake being protein is a waste, Protein will be used for energy instead of carbs which is not what is intended, In order to utilize carb cycling the body must switch to the higher calorie source which should be fat. There is also no way to take 0 carbs per day 3-10 % possible , zero is not thats because veggies have carb traces and so does meat and eggs , cheese ..

Good points. I guess it never is really zero carbs, but it can be pretty close. I am using a carb cycling diet now and I dont go up to 40% on the fat on low carb days, and it is working well. I guess either can be done.

Probably the reason that your diet is working because you are consuming less calories than you burn , along with low carbs allowing the body to use some fat for energy. It would probably be best to increase your fat intake on No/Low carb days for optimal fat loss.

No, it cant. It can use protein for energy but it cant "turn protein into carbs".
Keto diets utilize more than 40% of their diet from fat (50-65%). Getting 40% fat intake few days a week wont get you anywhere near ketosis. 80/0/20 on no carb day? You've gotta be kidding me. He barely has any source of fat besides the LEAN steak and few nuts. Taking fishoil caps or using sesamin supplements come no where near the benefits of consuming fat from whole food sources. And YES your body can convert protein into glucose (carb) to ensure that the right level of glucose is flowing in the bloodstream and use them for energy. Please refrain this stupidity to yourself before you hinder other people from reaching their goals.

hmm, this is interesting...typically I don't recommend carb cycles for general weight lose, I would just recommend decrease in calories to lose weight (no, or little sugar, and little saturated fat, and complex carbs earlier in the day)

however I do find carb cycles/depletion - loading...very good for aesthetic purposes...

My advice would not hinder his goals and its not stupidity. I use close to 80/0/20 on low carb days and it works great. Been doing it every cut and it has not failed yet. You also forgot he has eggs and cc in there as sources of fat. Three eggs have approx 13g fat. The steak, no matter how lean, has fat content. Even a lean filet mignon has 18g of fat. Two oz of nuts (Im assuming peanuts here) has 28g fat. That alone is 59g of fat, and it doesnt include the fat content of the cc, deli meat, or fish oil and sesamin. I'm guessing it probably comes close to 65-70g total, which means he's probably around 25-30% if he eats somewhere between 2200-2500 cals, which again, I am assuming here because I dont have a lot of info but his diet looks close to that.

So if you wanna argue that 80/0/20 or 70/0/30 is horrible stupid advice for a zero carb cycle day, we can do that all day. I stand by what works for me. But I wont be called stupid for saying he doesnt consume enough fat, or that his fat sources are bad. What fat sources do you think are good because he has a good mix of all of them: Red meat, eggs, nuts, dairy, fish oils, sesamin...what else is there?

    i wouldn't call that a "no"-carb day..mayb a low carb..

    most veggies still have carbs..
but the 20-30 carbs (depending on what was in your shake) is pretty low..
so yeah i guess it was decent for a no-carb day..
    :-)

There is also no way to take 0 carbs per day 3-10 % possible , zero is not thats because veggies have carb traces and so does meat and eggs , cheese ..

you shouldn't be doing no carb days. If you want to do a ketogenic diet you need a couple of weeks of no carbs to get properly adapted.
