Wasn't that the case where he argued he had letters from the ATF saying it was ok, but the ATF said a letter only applies to that person and can't infer legal standing?

Not really, no. It was about a 100% combat disabled veteran Marine who "modified" a pistol brace.

    Kelland Wright

    https://www.personaldefenseworld.com...ol-brace-case/

"The case turned on the fact that Wright had loosely affixed the rubber tip from a walking cane to the base of his cheek rest, ostensibly so the gun wouldn’t fall over in his gun safe."

"The government alleged the addition of the cane tip constituted a redesign of the brace, allowing firing from the shoulder."

And this has exactly jack all to do with violating straw purchase law

I was correct. This case determined that ATF letters are not a defense if they are not specifically written to the defendant https://princelaw.files.wordpress.co...rminations.pdf

I guess that also happened in the case. That of course isn't how or why the defendant won, especially since that went against him yet he won anyway.

Still fukkin amazes me there's an entire org out there just for arresting people for chit that is legal to use, ie alcohol, tobacco, firearms. The DEA already exists. Police are already around.

I know the ATF also issues interpretations of law, but why are they ALSO a police agency? Makes no sense.

Its a combination of legislation AND judicial authority and I think that's dangerous.

Hanks made some stinkers in the 80s. I guess they were capitalizing on the Hanks/Candy chemistry from Splash a couple years before but damn did that movie suck. Including Hanks' soon to be wife as the romantic female lead doesn't help, especially when she has a face like a catcher's mitt. But there was a good homage to Bridge on the River Kwai at least.

Yup. It was pretty good . . . but I like almost anything WWII related.

The sound effects when the U-boats appeared were a little gimmicky, but still worth a watch, IMHO.

From time to time, a handful live in town which is funny. Never had any problems though, just an awkward look then we just ignore each other.

Funny story from last night. We had a guy paroling out of the building I count, so I need to wake him up at 0430 to be ready for when the 0500 count clears, then he will be escorted to Receive and Release to do the paperwork, ect.

I'm a dick, so I woke him up at 0015, on my first count and told him "Hey, you know you parole in the morning? Cool, be ready at 0500 and we will escort you to D yard (we are on A yard); we need to quarantine you for 2 weeks before we can release you due to covid, it's a new policy. So you stay in D 5 until then"

He goes "Aww, what? My family is coming today, can I call them?"

Told him "Nope, sucks for them, and you, but whatever, be ready at 0500."

Let him sit there all butt hurt for the night, and at 0500 we took him to R&R and told him when we got there I was fcking with him. Got called a douchebag and laughed at him when I walked out.

I love doing that tio all the parolees. Funny reactions.
