I've NEVER found this exercise worth it.... I've done it regularly on 4 different setups/gyms. 1 have I ever found comfortable.....
It's ALWAYS terrible to adjust/get comfortable I don't care if its ROGUE/ELITEFTS etc.. , I don't feel it provides any extra vs other glute exercises, in fact I've made better progress with other/simpler alternative exercises.
Why do gyms keep buying/having this, who said "this is the best thing ever" ??
There's a concept called "cognitive overhead" which is how much you have to think/put cognitive effort to do something. This setup is absolutely TERRIBLE for this, one of the worst I've ever seen.
This is possibly my only pet peeve in 12 years of lifting.
Good mornings, RDL, Laying hamstring curls, DB RDL.... ****ing ball roll ins.... EVERYTHING IS BETTER THEN GLUTE HAM RAISES.

So your problem in 12 years is that you dislike an exercise/equipment.
It works for some, for others it doesn't.
I dislike cable flyes, but..."Reminds me of the good ol' days back in 03-04 when ripptoes/5 by 5/hit/doggcrap reigned supreme and you did not need direct arm work for big biceps. Rows and chins were it. "Ever see a guy rowing 300+lbs with chicken arms?". Ah yes those were the days. God bless amusclehead and his twisted one dimensional views along with the rest of the former flock."

GHR is f*ng awesome. Very underrated bad ass movement. It's like the squat rack, only dedicated squatters belong there.2020 maxes

So an open chain version of the ghr for people who can't do many ghr leg curls..
Eh... I'll pass. I've tried them before and seated curls are better, and ghr & nordic are better still.
The modification to laying curls I like the best it's done with a hard arch almost in the cobra pose.

I hate it. I didn't give it a fair run though, only tried for a few weeks. It was really really awkward, I seem to recall it was really finicky to set up properly, and legs had to slide on pads while weighted (otherwise feet had to flex and extend making it more of a calf workout). Switched to band assisted nordics which really burn the hamstrings and easier to setup.

You can set these things up so a band assists your movement, the issue may be you are not at a level of strength where the movement is enjoyable. They are pretty hard to do if you are just starting out with it, sometimes these things require an ego check.
My advice though is just to not do them. If you don't like something, don't do it.
