    Wee Brag: My Son Reps 225 on a flat incline

    My son lifts on his own based on a little input from me. For the last year he's been cycling 185x10 one day, then 190x9 ~three days later, working progressively heavier each successive workout but with fewer reps until stopping at 215x5. I suggested that he push the envelope a bit so he did 220x4 on his last cycle but then insisted on going back to 185. I said, when you get to 225, I want to video you. This is the result:




    I remember many years ago I could get 225x10 (maybe 12) on the decline, but my incline falls off significantly more than the typical lifter. I think he's stronger on the incline than I've ever been. And his diet sucks. I'm sure he averages less than 100g of protein per day

    if it's there, he'll lock in and get his diet right and progress..

    Thanks guys. And by "flat incline" I meant an incline with very little slope.

    He's 5'11" and weighs 206. I'm nearly 5'11" and weigh 174 He takes after his mom's side. She has a brother that's a beast: 5'8", 195, and 15% max bodyfat. He used "supplements" back in the day, but he hasn't in several years.

    Thanks! And I tried, but he has no interest. He's got a naturally good set of wheels/gluts, but I couldn't talk him into it.

    When I went down there to video him, he had a 45, 25, 10, and two 5's on each side. I was like "NO WAY!" We're doing this with 2 PPS

    Propelled by excitement, when he finished, I said "let's see what your old man can do! Strip off a plate and let me warm up." I haven't benched in months due to a nagging shoulder injury, and after ONE rep with 135 I was like "yeah, I'd better stick with the dumbbells."

    Hmm......and the point of that is what exactly? Maybe tell the kid to regular flat and then regular incline as two different lifts. Unless he limited to what he's doing because of his equipment/setup.

    sounds familiar. This is so easy to correct. Upper chest respond to training so beautifully, you can catch up and surpass your flat bench in a year. Simply target the upper chest, nothing special.

    My son finally cycled around where he had to lift 225 again. I didn’t even consider videoing it thinking he would get six or perhaps seven. He cranked out a set of 10 A one rep calculator puts his max at 300, and if he can get 225x12 that should translate to a max of 315.

    I’ll update this later if he gets stronger, and I’m going to recommend that he start creatine. Maybe that’s worth a rep or two
