the draw to Subway was the prices and deals, and that it's more healthy than lots of other fast food places. But those days are long gone the prices have skyrocketed. There are no more 5$ footings. they're almost double in price now, and the food is so bland and cheap quality. You can get way better subs or a better meal in general for around the same price somewhere else. you could go to Jimmy Jhons for example where they actually slice their deli meat fresh, while Subway is still using frozen meats that need to thaw in the sink. The only thing that's good is the vegetables are usually really fresh but the food itself is not that satisfying.

don't blame you, I went today to get something fast and easy so I didn't have to go grocery shopping. I didn't even finish my sandwich because of how unimpressed I was. the chicken sucks but I don't remember it sucking so badly. I guess it's gone the same route as Boston Market, used to be a good, convenient place to get decent quality food that isn't fried in grease but now theyv gone downhill.

A lot of chain restaurants follow the same cycle:
1) Get big by offering high quality food at a reasonable price
2) Slowly start reducing the quality of your food to cut costs and increase profits
3) Eventually the company implodes when everyone finally figures out the food sucks now.
Happened to Subway, KFC, Burger King, Applebees, Olive Garden, Red Lobster. Dominos was on this path until their new CEO pulled them out about 10 years ago, and now they're starting to head that direction again.

Hadn’t been to a subway in a couple years until early December we stopped and started to get some sammiches. 2 foot long meals 2 6” kids meals came up to $50. I laughed and walked out. Never again. Half the time the person making the sammich puts gloves on, then goes digging around in the garbage can, scratches their ass, adjusts their slobbery mask then slaps your processed cold cuts on. I’ll go to a restaurant for less money and way better food.

They attach to gas stations like flies so I assume tradies keep them afloat when the roller grill is down.

i cant tell if subway and applebees/tgi fridays have ACTUAL worse quality food over the years, or I just stopped being a poor teenager/college student that couldn't afford to eat more expensive fare and didn't live in a tier 1 city for food.
100% srs. is it actually worse quality now, or have WE changed.

its probably a little of both. i ate at all of those chitholes when i was a poorcel 20 years ago and although they were groce, it was acceptable for the price and where i was in life. i wouldnt be caught dead in them now. same goes for the crap chain pizza that most miscers jizz their pants over like papa johns, dominos, etc. ate that when was a loser, pure trash now

Assloads of subways go out of business.
I was going to buy one when I first got out of the military...there were like 8,000 stores at the time, and going through the application process they also listed hundreds of stores that had closed.
Only 1 McDonald's has ever closed, afaik, and that was because they bulldozed it after a shooting there.
It's easy to open a Subway, though, but the fees are high...8% of sales franchise fee.
