so is "existing" fracking still in place? if that's the case it doesn't sound like fracking is banned. they are going to end all "new" leasing, but when does current leasing expire? if nothing changed from today going forward, would it be a slow wind down of fracking entirely or would it be sustaining current levels?

Shale producers planned ahead and have been working to mitigate this by doing chit like getting permits in place for the next few years. But it's a good move for appeasing environmentalists

- environmentalists happy because ban/progress
- existing operators happy because they need oil prices higher and this also shuts out new competitors

By kneecapping domestic oil production the US can resume shipments of middle eastern oil. This will restore important relationships with the House of Saud developed under Bush and continued with Obama, real bridge builder. Back to Business as usual.

Stupid Trump and his pipeline deals would have undermined the investment Berkshire made buying every rail line between Alberta and Texas under Obama as well. They make $15/barrel carrying oil and pipelines just pumping all this cheap oil would have ruined that.

Sure the cheap oil was making for cheap energy, but the American public's reinvestment in Saudi oil will allow Saudis more funds to buy weapons from Raytheon, Boeing and the like. The punishing costs of energy will also force people to cancel discretionary costs, making for a smaller carbon footprint.

$4-5 gas is a win-win-win-win guys.
