Why doesn’t the PS5 have a quick resume?

I know you can do the “Game Cards” thing but thats not very fast compared to the XSX. Also even the old xbox one x with a hard drive lets you turn it off, switch into a game, and even switch back and forth between youtube, games, hulu, etc in a matter of seconds (yes, literally 2-4 seconds between apps) way faster than the ps5.

What’s up with that? 7,000MB/s is this the best you can do sony?

I have an ps6 and using its backwards compatibility mode since no games out for it yet so can only play ps5 and below games, it has a quick resume feature its great

These are all things Sony decided isn't worth the effort or investment. Not sure what kinda "why" you are looking for.

I think the PS5 is more than capable, but sony didnt put in the effort into it out of release which is kinda disappointing, but hopefully it'll be a feature soon since both companies take each other's ideas lol.

I don't really use the Quick Resume Feature on purpose, but it's nice to have sometimes. I didn't play a game for a month and when I picked it, the quick resume function popped up and I was back to where I left off a month ago. Cool nonetheless, but again not super critical to have.

I guess it would have to be the space required to do that. The PS5's SSD is already smaller than the XSX at 825GB compared to the 1TB of XSX. PS5 has 667GB of useful storage while XSX has about 800 GB of useful storage. The OS is included in the reserved space, but the Quick Resume feature eats up a lot of additional space. Xbox is using 50GB more than PS5 for reserved space. so now maybe the PS5 useable space goes down to 600GB which would be pretty ass to have on a Next Gen Console, that's like an entirely new game for some.

The obvious rebuttal is "Oh well we'll just get the additional SSD Card" which is fine, but you have to understand most people can't afford an additional $200 1TB SSD Card on top of their $500 console, that's a lot to take in and most people probably never used expanded storage. I keep all my older games on my HDD, but all Series X optimized games have to run on the internal SSD to make use of the optimization. You could still play a Series X game off an external HDD, but you won't get the additional performance boosts. I believe on the PS5 you can't play a PS5 game off the HDD, and you need to move it back and forth to the SSD. Each console optimizes what they think is important, they largely share the same hardware, but their OS's and software infrastructure are largely different. I know that Xbox prioritizes the menu and switching between apps, whereas PS5 is more for ingame speed. Each console has their own benefits and drawbacks. I know there was a report like a day after the PS5 launched and received some flak for this. The rebuttal was "PS5 Pro to release with 2 GPU's, Xbox-cels on suicide watch". Like the console just came out and I'd imagine there wouldn't be a pro version for at least 3 years at the minimum. At some point you have to realize that if you're just going to beef up your console to be better than the other (like Samsung vs. Apple), you're better off just getting a computer and playing games on that.

Also the PS5 apparently doesn't fully support SSD expansion at the moment, so I'd imagine they'd undergo testing and provide specs on what will and will not work with their console. They said this support would come in a future update and I'd imagine they'd push the Quick Resume features at this point.

But if it were me, I really would rather the extra SSD space instead of using Quick Resume.

Can confirm, quick resume is a beast of feature. Every now and then you catch yourself thinking you just had deja vu because it loads so fast and exactly how you left off. If you're like me that plays 4-5games at a time it is essential now. Only thing MS needs to fix is how they use the expandable storage. I get its hot swappable but they treat them as completely separate drives so if you have some room left on one but not enough for a game it goes unused as you need to install to a drive with enough space. Hopefully an update to fix that.

Sony up your game bro! You haven't even released support for expandable drives yet.....

Lets be honest, the PS5 has a lot of issues right now with falling short of the Series X when it comes to features, only a total Sonycel can be defensive of this kinda chit.

In years I had the PS4, Sony never released any major improvements. The UI barely changed and the store was **** from day one.
It seems like once they sell you the console, they don't give a **** about customers.

Hopefully, they add it in though. It would make the PS5 a more competitive alternative to the Series X for sure.

I think Bongo is very right. If Sony has interest in adding the feature it's software based and nothing about the hardware make it undoable.

I think he's talking about you can have multiple games open and when you select them, it brings you back to where you left off.

For example the first day I had my Series X I played Modern Warfare. Then I got Cold War and a few other upgraded games, and I played those. A month later I was like hey I wanna play Modern Warfare again. I selected the game and it brought me directly to the multiplayer menu where I left off a month ago within like 2 seconds.

oh...got it. but i'm guessing it's for digital only games. i don't do digital. if i'm spending the money, i want a disc. so that quick resume would be moot for me anyway.

It still does it for disc games. But it definitely makes buying the digital copy more attractive.
