It was the most immersive game I have ever played. I have always loved outer space and the wonders it stores. Mass Effect told the story of first contact and the human evolution that followed. So, naturally it drawn me in. The graphics and facial detail of the characters were amazing at the time. Your decisions have real weight to them. You could explore the universe. It really felt like you were a captain of a spaceship and represented the human race in the federation. When the Reapers were first revealed you really felt their power and had a real sense of fear from them. They were the perfect boss. Unfortunately, the following games didn't hold that same kind of fear with the Reapers.
The gameplay decisions made a lot of sense. The guns were heat based and had unlimited ammo. That made a lot of sense to me. Why would you run out of ammo in the future? Surely a better technology would of have been created making ammo and reloading obsolete. So the overheating aspect of the gun instead of reloading was really spot on IMO. Sadly, they reverted back to ammo in the following games. The powers that you could have were satisfying as well. Lifting someone up in the air and then blasting them off the cliff with another telekinesis type move was pure satisfaction. Sadly, the following games nerfed the powers as well.
Mass Effect was a masterpiece. People say Mass Effect 2 was the better game but I disagree. No other game came close to the immersion of the first game. Once the success of the first game happened the following games were doomed. Once that kind of money is involved the greed parasites are drawn to it and stranglehold any kind of direction the original developers were going to go with.
One of a kind game.

Same. What a game man. That game had me by the balls straight from that wild intro. I remember that's where the demo ended and I legit thought they killed off Shepard for months. Nearly shat myself.
That entire trilogy was a once in a generation experience. Not even that actually. I don't remember any game that let me import my character and choices across three games to give me that kind of journey this entire past gen.Last edited by AD117; 01-21-2021 at 10:11 PM.

Mass Effect 2 was easily the peak game in that series, and the best thing Bioware ever made IMO. I always felt like the original KOTOR was the best game they made up until that point.
The sense of exploration was simply incredible, the best game of capturing that Star Trek-esque feel where you are this space captain exploring the galaxy, encountering aliens and all sorts of chit. Not enough games really do that right, The Outer Worlds did a fantastic job, my game of the year for 2019, but it was far more limited in an exploration sense.

By the time I got around to Mass Effect I had already played 2 and 3. The graphic downgrade and excessive upgrade trees took me totally out of the game. I'm not a graphics snob, by any means, but some of the maps had textures and elements that repeated so often I got lost. Compelling story though.
Mass Effect 2 was one of the GOAT memories I have gaming. Shadow Broker DLC? Hoo boy. Played it one summer, was a really good summer in general. Loved 3, too. If you ascribe to the Indoctrination Theory (and why the fuk wouldn't you? It fits so perfect and fixes the ending, has to be legit) it's actually dope as hell.

For me I feel that way about Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. At that point in my life, being so young, and experiencing a game so vast, I was blown away and it remains as one of the greatest games I've ever played. It just beats out Halo: Combat Evolved for me and KOTOR.
Like I feel that now I've gotten much older, if I was to replay the same game again in those same conditions (playing for the first time) that it would not have hit as much as it did when I was younger. Kind of a bittersweet moment to think about. Like if you were 30 and playing those games again for the first time, would it have felt the same if you were 10?
Like my 8-10 year old brain could not comprehend the full game which left me wondering more. Had I been older I probably would have seen a lot more things coming and been prepared for it, thus lowering my shock/wow factor.*Mechanical Engineering Crew*

"Because the thing about repairing, maintaining, and cleaning is it’s not an adventure. There’s no way to do it so wrong you might die. It’s just work. And the bottom line is, some people are okay going to work, and some people … well, some people would rather die. Each of us gets to choose.”

Ahh Mass Effect...another amazing Bioware number which became increasingly poor with each sequel, as other developers stuck their oar in (yea, I'm looking at you EA). I can scarcely remember the third game. Although I did like the 'horde' type multiplayer mode.
I love the way you can mix-up the skills of different team mates, like throw a foe into the air and set them on fire at the same time.
Brilliant soundtrack, cut scenes, gameplay and story. A 100% must play for anyone even half-way in love with RPGs.Sig line can't be a novel
