My store sells like 500 rental cars a year. Theyre no worse off than trade ins with the same miles. 99% of people get a rental car after a car accident and drive it just like their personal car.
As for OP, if you bought a rental car for only 2800 less than you could buy the car brand new your got ripped off. We sell 2020 Altima SVs with 35k miles for under 17 grand. Thats 10 grand below MSRP and 7 grand below current invoice less rebates. Camrys are only marginally better value. If you bought a car and have a problem with something that was knowable before you bought the car to even the most ignorant shopper then it's on you. Eat the loss and ride the tires on it or buy new ones. You have no recourse unless you want to whine to the general manager about the stupid decision you made and he/she hooks you up.

My trick was to book the cheapest car humanly possible with a corporate discount code, then upgrade into what I wanted (hook up who I played ball with in high school taught me some tricks).. Vette, Escalade, Exotic etc... If they were out, or the guy at the counter was being a douche and I got something crappy. I would make damn sure the throttle was pinned in neutral at every single god damn traffic light. Cold start and pin the throttle. Drive with e-brake engaged. Empty washer fluid and continue holding the stalk and ran the washer fluid pump dry until it burned out.
My friend took his brothers V6 camaro rental out for lunch. We hate that car. He left it in first gear pinned to redline all the way to the restaurant, drove around town like that and did it all the way back home. The motor seized and it was brand new.
Oh, and taking out the air fliter (and leaving it out) was the very first thing I did... Nice extra induction noise like an intake on some cars.
Owners manuals? Mine. First aid kits? Mine. Floor mats? Mine... My friend found a Ray-Ban sunglasses pouch with $600 under the passenger seat of the Lambo. Went to the casino and put it all on one hand, won. Took that $1200 and put it all on one hand. Won. He lost it all on the next two hands. Our plan was to get it up to 5k and extend the lambo rental for a week. Didn't work out but it was such a blast.
