How do I talk to my doctor without him thinking I want drugs?(mental health)

    I'ma cliff some issues
-break out in hives, legs start shaking, butterflies in my stomach from anything out of routine or something not previously planned happens
-same thing for any undue stress
-i use my gps on my phone a lot, I talk to it and my radio, sometimes I won't hear what the gps said so I'll say, " did you say left or right", and i will sometimes hear it answer, I've also said, " you said left, right" and it said yes
    - I have nightmares about four nights a week, of somebody holding me down, smothering me, or chasing me through my house with a knife
    - sometimes when I first wake up I'll see something that isn't there, like my cat in my room, so I'll get up to let it out, and when the light from the hall shines in the room, it won't be there, even though I've "seen" it in dim lighting walk with me and avoid my feet as I walk to the door
    -very anxious, every day

Wut do guys, srs, I want to tell my doctor, but I don't want this guy to think I'm a drug seeker, honestly don't want drugs, I just don't want these things or feelings to happen anymore

I mean your doctor will most likely give you drugs, and it sounds like you probably need them. Sounds like you're dipping into psychosis and really you should address the issue sooner rather than later.

Just start your doctors appointment by saying to him you are not wanting drugs, just help with the issues you are having.

    He will understand.

There is no need to worry, it will be fine.

Mine recommended counseling but my insurance wouldn't cover it since none are in our network.

Although i ended up on meds for anxiety, I would advise trying everything else first.

I got an appointment scheduled Friday, he's just a family doctor so I might get referred to the little mental health place across the street, that said, I don't feel crazy, you know, for the most part I feel completely normal, aside from the things listed in op, I will say the anxious feelings happen every morning for at least an hour to two and a half, and the dreams haven't stopped most nights of the week for months now

I think you're gonna need some type of drug to bring you under control for a while and then taper off.
The problem will be finding the most effective drug with the least side effects and that is most easily tapered off.
After 6mo-1yr, if you are under control, you can slowly taper off and be in a better place with better coping mechanisms.

be patient and don't seem like you want drugs right away after the first session (srs) It took me like 4 visits until I got prescribed Concerta for ADD which is what I needed. After several visits say you're continuing to have those issues you posted. That's probably the best advice I can give.

Was on a low dose of lexapro for probably 3 years or better. Pretty bad anxiety / depression. For the longest time felt like less of a man because of the need for something to help me feel “normal”. Worked well for depression not so much for anxiety.

Felt godlike this past year so I tappered off at end of summer and have been completely off since October. Pulled the bottle out this past week and almost started again last week, but didn’t. Seasonal depression hits me hard this time of year. Side effects are a bitch tho. Goodbye orgasms for a while once you start lol.

Moral of the story, if it helps you and makes you happy... it can’t be that bad. Some people just need them to balance them out.

Brah, I cant get into details, but I was in a pretty bad way... and the meds levelled me out. They allowed my CNS to relax, then when I was in a better place I tapered off about 6 months ago. The tapering is the most important bit to ensure the **** don't hit the fan again. Also, you need to be ready for a small dip a few months after tapering off (basically your body has completely cleared out all the metabolites and has to start compensating), if you make it past that, you have beat your anxiety/depression and have come out the other side a better man.

I was on anxiety meds for years, ive been off them for a while now. Its so hard to stop it. Im no dr, but i would suggest not taking any meds longer than a few weeks. (if they are a benzo). Even a few weeks is pushing it.

Show the doctor what you wrote, and tell him you are writing a screenplay for a major Hollywood movie and you aren't sure what to have the doctor in the screenplay prescribe for the main character.

But on a more serious note, I think maybe you need to see a psychiatrist. I would think that they would be better suited to prescribing you the correct medications.

If he's starting an SSRI, it takes about 4-6 weeks for them to start working properly... docs don't like to give out benzos anymore, they prefer safer short term meds like promethazine, but they only fix acute issues.

You're right. I never wanted SSRI's because of the side effects. my Dr put me on klonopin for years. Such a bad idea... I loved that stuff

I stopped it my self through a taper, but it was kinda tough.

Honestly, don't be worried about the dr. If you're really going through ****, they'll se it and help you.

But when you go to the pharmacy, they'll treat you like a drug addict even though you have a script.
If you need to talk, pm me, I'm here for you.

Good ones will not think this. They mostly profile for seekers, I think.

I think women and lower level ones are easier to manipulate if you DO want rugs.

    Your situation isn't drug seeking

Normally drug seeking is some cracked out looking dude saying their back hurts and they need painkillers or someone trying to get adhd pillz

People underestimate inflammation and it’s role in altering our mental health.

I wouldn’t be surprised if quality DHA (omega 3s), tumeric, and maybe some NAC helped

    Vitamin D as well

Had almost the exact same thing you described about 10 years ago when I was 21. I told him exactly how I feel and I’m not sure what to do anymore. He started me on Zoloft, busbar, and Xanax when ever I need it. I don’t even fill the Xanax anymore because I don’t need it. After 10 years of being on Zoloft and busbar it was the best thing I ever did. My doctor described it to me that some peoples brains just don’t fire right abs there is a chemical imbalance.

If he does put you on Zoloft the first 3-4 months suck dick, you don’t feel normal, sex sucks. But after you get over that hump it really is worth it if that’s what you need. I don’t notice any side affects at all and I can live a normal life again.

Its not underestimated anymore... its one of the leading theories out there at the moment... the macrophage theory. It has overtaken the monoamine theory.

The thing is though, the supplements you mentioned will help, but nowhere near enough to consider it a cure, especially for what the OP describes.

Supplements will help with mild anxiety/depression and low mood, but even then, a full blood panel should be done to compare before and after results.

benzos are available from a million different places (if you get me) for cents.

If you wanna get benzos the physiatrist route you will need to go through:

SSRI anti-depressants with anxiety reducing effects (supposedly) FIRST
Maybe 3 or 4 of them so for the first 6-12 months expect zero benzos. The best the doc will do is write you script for 10 0.5mg Alprazolam (Xanax) for the first week or 2 you're waiting for the anti-depressants to work
After the year if you still have issues you may get a small dose clonazepam (Klonopin) or lorazepam(Ativan) whilst you are referred for intense counselling and CBT sessions. Both the Klonopin or Ativan will be at smallest possible doses and only for a month or 2 max. There is no "new" physiatrist that's practicing alive today that scripts benzos indefinitely. By new I mean those that started practicing after the year 2000 or so when the medical community realised the brutal addictive and withdrawal qualities of benzos. I don't mean an 80 year old physiatrist who refuses to retire. A guy like that might just script you benzos first appointment.

Meanwhile, you can skip all that nonsense (and all those physiatrist fees, prescription fees, etc) and get a 50 pack of 2mg Alprazolam for around 85 Dollars next day delivery.
