Looking at buying a TV today.
Will be used for a blend of movie/shows and gaming. What are the best brands? I have an LG and do not love it so I would try to look for other options.
I think i will at least go with 120hz refresh rate, i would like to find HDMI 2.1, but not will to spend over $1k

Just bought a 65" Sony X900H. I did lots of research and this is what I ended up needing/wanting- good for movies and gaming with 2.1 HDMI.
OLED is good but dont wanna be stressed over burn-ins. Some claims it will happen, some say they never experienced it. Rather not have that worry at the back of my head.CHRISTMAS Forever Crew

mgtfp is correct. Wait for reviews for 2021 models, or look at reviews for 2020 models. HDMI 2.1 (where you can game at 4k at 120fps on certain games) will become more common this year. Keep in mind that the 2021 models will be at their highest price point when they launch though... they generally get a good amount less expensive during the fall, and right before the next years models hit.
I have a 65'' LG OLED B8, amazing picture quality. However, OLED's are also pricier than $1000.
You can find 55'' 2020 LG OLED's are about $1200-$1400 now.... they are dropping in price fast. The 2016 version was $4,000 when it came out.Last edited by ScramFranklin; 01-18-2021 at 07:47 AM.

This is my TV info guy, has a buncha info on the new tech coming showcased at CES.

If I were to buy a 2020 TV that is what I would have went with.
Depends on the model, there are some decent Samsungs. You just gotta be patient and wait for reviews, especially if you want good bang for your buck and don't want to miss out on features and specs. Major manufacturers have teased the tech of the new units at CES and some things look really exciting but nobody knows how these will perform in the real world yet.

I don't like current OLED tech considering burn-in risks and low peak brightness issues. That said, the Sony 900 of 2020 is a very dim set compared to the Sony set I got a couple years ago but I'd also be buying kinda as a placeholder if I were buying a TV on 2020, waiting for the advancement in MiniLED, MicroLED, and hopefully better OLED tech all starting to come this year and the 900 is cheap as chit so if I ended up wanted to buy a new model in 2021 it's not the end of the world.

Just bought an LG CX a couple months ago. I'm really liking it. But would definitely wait another month or two for the new models to come out. 2020 seems to be universally agreed upon to have been a slow year for innovation in tvs.
The thing is though you'd have to wait a long time to get the same deals...and for the savings of getting a 2020 model you could get a badass sound bar.

1k price limit kinda caps your options a lot. Like others have said the 2021 models are gunna be full eye watering list price for awhile so idk why even bother waiting for them if they're gunna be out of your price range.
You didn't say what size you need either, also makes a big difference.
what sublime said is the bottom line for ya:
"If you want to spend 1k, you got the samsung qled 70q 55" for 1k. 4k 120hz hdmi 2.1"**MFC**
