Shout out to all the miscers who said this game was criminally underrated. I agree, having a blast.
It's not a DOOM killer but I can't imagine liking DOOM and not liking this. Only $10 right now for PS4 waddup.

Used to deathmatch on all 3 originals back in the 90's on the company network after hours with co-workers. All 3 were a blast. The only one missing from the list is Heretic. That's was lots of fun too. Obviously today's remakes are light years ahead of the originals in terms of graphics, but damn those early FPS shooters were fun to play.

Hell yeah!
I'm a Shadow Warrior 2 evangelist, and the gospel I preach is a triple barreled hand cannon.
For real, the kill animations in this game are like a fine wine:
^And these aren't "glory kills" or canned animations; you straight up slice and splatter everything in sight without pause.
The reason this wound up surpassing Doom for me was because it has such a flowing, addictive combat loop that literally can loop as long as you like because the open maps will always spawn enemies somewhere to kill - even after you complete the objective. You can end at any time, but I couldn't resist continuing on a killing spree.
Like if Doom 2016 would continuously respawn enemies, all the backtracking would have been a riot, but it looks like id went in the other direction with a bunch of jumping puzzles for Eternal hence why I'm waiting for that SOB to hit $5 before picking it up...
SW1 is definitely more "classic FPS" level design that leads you down one path, whereas SW 2 has a direction, but it is very open in how you can approach your goals.
If you have ever played Doom 2016, imagine the combat arenas, except now there are no walls or gates locking you in. You could literally run around kiting enemies if you wanted to, and sometimes you have to really utilize the space to put distance between yourself and some of the hard hitting foes.
There is some very light randomization to parts of the levels, but nothing that will get you lost.
There are pros and cons to each style, and while we don't know much about Shadow Warrior 3, it at least looks like they're trying to hone in the levels more to get a mix of open arena combat and engaging level design.
There is some skills that you can level up that give the game a good sense of progress without being overbearing.
But the real kick is that it has some looter shooter vibes with gems that you can slot into your weapons.
The best way to describe it is if Borderlands let you swap modifiers for a smaller selection of guns instead of having tons of random guns with fixed stats. So, if you want a lightning shotgun, all you need is your trusty shotgun and a lightning gem.
Enemies drop the gems, but what I really like about the weapons themselves is that there is a small selection of each type (pistols, shotguns, rockets, grenade launchers, swords, ect.), yet it never feels like one class is suddenly dominated by only one gun.I will stand firm, I refuse to kneel - The fury in me is divine

Aww chit #3 is coming this year?! That'll be a day 1 purchase for me, I'm sold.
This post nails it. I love that you can build a fire shotgun with high crit, or a no-miss ice submachine gun or whatever, just be reslotting the gems. There's also no cost to reslotting so you're free to swap things out. I'm finding it fairly easy on Normal difficulty but there are two difficulties above this, I'm sure you have to be a LOT more tactical with your approach.
Agree that at least so far there is no "best" gun in each category. For instance I have a rocket launcher with one ammo and a long reload time that does far more damage, or a 3 (I think?) round drum fed one that does less. Find a playstyle you like and go for it.Smooth Seas don't make Strong Sailors. Keep your head up.
