Example: knowing how to change your tires, oil, etc. Instead of taking it to the shop.

Basic knowledge don't necessarily mean you can do things yourself.
That just mean you know approximatively what somebody should do on your car, or on something else.
If you have a health issue. Doctors will explain you what happens and you will have to take your decision. Basically they give you basic knowledge.
So I would answer Yes to you answer

Seems kind of pointless in this day and age. Even though I know how to do basic maintenance on cars I still always pay to get it done since I value my time more than the money I'd save doing it myself.
If I get a flat I'll just call up my insurance or credit card company and have them send me roadside assistance. Never do my own oil changes. Same thing with brakes.
Also in the future cars will be electric and robotaxis will take over.Last edited by Hector002; 01-15-2021 at 12:27 AM.

All my car's are pretty old and well maintained. "How to service tires", like taking it off the rim and putting new tires on? No, can't do that. That takes very expensive machines to do, especially for the tires I use. Change oil? Easy as fukc and I trust myself to do things right on stuff like this more than anyone else.
My middle sister just bout a BMW that's over 80K, it took some time even figuring out how to shut the hood completely. My main car is also BMW, if I let hood down to low and it does not close completely, I can just push the hood down and it will close completely. Herr's, doesn't do that. I have to drop the hood at a height that the first try at closing it actually closes it. I actually had to goober search that. It seems like BMW wants a " yes I want to do this" And if yes, then again "yes I really want to do this. Or a really hard drop for "yes I want to do this".☆☆☆USA яєω☆☆☆

No.
Of the smartest and most successful people I know, none would be able to put air in their tyres.

I wish I could but my father refused to teach his sons about car maintenance. To be clear, my father is basically Lord of Tradies. He can fix anything automotive, electrical, plumbing, etc. He is as blue collar as they come. But he also has an old-fashioned idea of social class. He wanted his sons to wear ties to work and have their own office. And so he flat out turned my brother and I down whenever we asked about manual labor work. Said that wasn't what we were going to do with our lives. Turns out he was right-I went into finance and my little brother into insurance but would it be nice to know SOMETHING about cars? Yeah, it would.
