This is Starbucks original business model. Lol at people who thought for so many years it was a coffee business. They were a lifestyle business before there were lifestyle companies. Their original model was to provide a little bit of luxury to the masses. Before them, coffee was a pot of Dixons at the diner. Most of you are too younf to remember how it was before there was a coffee shop on every corner. Before Starbucks, there was no such thing as a coffee shop in North America (excluding the espresso bars in little Italy). NO SUCH THING. Can you imagine?

To answer your question OP, Starbucks was so successful with their business model that its been adopted as a way of life.

I remember an old episode of the Simpsons where Bart was walking down the street toward some store he intended to go into, and every single store he walked past was a Starbucks. He goes into the store and asks the clerk for something and the clerk says “Make it quick, kid. In 5 minutes this place is turning into a Starbucks.”

At that time (probably close to 30 years ago already) I had no clue what the hell Starbucks even was. But the show was clearly making fun of the uprising of coffee shops (or predicting it, as the Simpsons are notorious for doing)

I have a barista machine at home, we’ve gotten pretty good at making cappuccino but still not as good as some of the better coffee shops that I go to.

I go out for coffee about 4x a week, it’s just a change of scenery, like going out for food. I rarely go to Starbucks though, I find their cappuccinos just taste of milk.

It’s probably a poor habit financially, no reason for it. But tbh, there’s not much to do. You can stay at home and watch a show, do some work, play games or you can go out. And when you’re out, if you want to chill somewhere, the options really only are sitting in a park or a nice coffee shop.

Joe Coffee tastes fantastic, except they only stay hot enough for 2-3 minutes.

Most places seem good enough. I do not care after a certain amount. Better than what I can make, unless I spend like 10 minutes on a French press and grinder, which I do not like coffee enough to do.
