This is highly individual. Play around with it and find what works best for you. Personally I like at least an hour between a meal and workout and operate best in the evening after multiple meals on the day. Some people prefer going in fasted first thing in the AM, others slam a banana on the drive to the gym.

You may also find you feel better with diff timings and amounts depending on what specifically you eat on a particular day (and whether it's in liquid or solid form).

I'm usually doing between 1/2 and 1 cup of oatmeal cooked with 1-1.5 tablespoon of honey, whatever that comes to. About 45min.- hour before workout. I'm using a preworkout drink I like as well that has cutting/thermo? ingredients. At least that's what I was told.

I've had issues with low blood sugar, passing out when I was younger. I feel like the oatmeal with honey is a great combo for me. Wish I could have been eating this when I was a teenager playing basketball.

Also, as mentioned above, bananas are good. I usually do one after with the protein shake. Short on time though they work well before.

For whatever reason, I seem to do pretty well working out immediately after eating, albeit not when it's a huge amount.

Perhaps it has to do with utilizing that insulin spike.

I'm curious about it: do you find you are able to do heavy squats/deadlifts with a full stomach?
I recently did something like that on a leg day, and felt like throwing up (luckily did not).

Yes. I think I am unusual in this regard though. Don't try to do that if it definitely nauseates you.

Good for you, that will probably allow you to have a lot of energy!
But, yeah, ever since that incident I don't eat anything for a couple of hours before heavy sessions.

I don't think it really matters as long as your glycogen is topped off. I PRd last week at 7 at night after eating literally nothing all day. this week I ate 1200 cals pre gym and felt week AF so for me it doesn't really matter. What does is my previous weeks average calories and my water weight. If I'm cutting normally bad lifts if I'm getting fat fantastic lifts. In general I don't want a full belly when I go to exercise and I need a few hours before I eat a big meal after. typically I don't take anything but pre after lunch a shake after then smash a large meal at like midnight after but that's just how I like to do it. One dude at the gym I go to swears on eating pizza before he lifts. Just try stuff but realize you need to repeat the results a few times before attributing the good day to what you think it might be.
